The purpose of this study is two-parted. The first is to examine the differences between the expository preaching that preachers in the East and West regard as the most biblical preaching and the narrative preaching as the contemporary mainstream of the new homiletics. The second is to find a complementary way to practice expository-narrative preaching by highlighting the strengths of each. In the Bible, various lessons and stories are recorded with historical, cultural, philosophical, linguistic, and periodic backgrounds and circumstances. In other words, despite having their own literary forms, narratives are embedded in the texts dealing with doctrines and percepts. At the same time, there are many cases where doctrines and percepts are embedded in narratives. Nevertheless, Korean pastors preach the narrative text in an expository preaching form and miss the intention of the narrator embedded in the text, or preach the doctrine and instructional text in an only expository preaching form and lead to overlook the narrative in the text. Narrative preaching came after expository preaching and was started by progressive scholars who classified narrative preaching as the new homiletics but many changes began to take place at the turn of the 21st century. By considering preaching perspectives rather than theological perspectives, expository preaching and narrative preaching recognize that they are essential to one another. In this paper, I will discuss the understanding and necessity of both expository preaching and narrative preaching and will seek the practical direction of expository-narrative preaching, while exploring how to practice biblical preaching that combines the merits of these two different types of preaching.

본 연구는 동서양을 막론하고 오랫동안 설교자들이 가장 성경적 설교라고 여기며 실천하고 있는 강해 설교와 신설교학의 대표 주자격인 내러티브 설교의 상이점을 살피고 각각의 장점으로 서로 보완해 줌으로 강해적 내러티브 설교를 할 수 있는 방법을 모색하는 것에 목적이 있다. 성경은 다양한 교훈들과 이야기들이 역사적, 문화적, 언어적, 철학적, 시대적 상황을 배경으로 기록되어 있다. 다시 말하면, 고유의 문학적 형태를 갖고 있음에도 불구하고 교리나 교훈을 다루는 본문 안에 내러티브가 내재되어 있는가 하면 반대로 내러티브 안에 교훈과 교리가 내재되어 있다는 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 한국 목회자들은 내러티브 본문을 강해 설교 형식으로 설교하여 본문 안에 내재되어 있는 내레이터의 의도를 놓치거나 교리나 교훈의 본문을 강해 설교 형식으로만 설교하다가 본문 안에 있는 내러티브를 놓치는 우를 범하기도 한다. 내러티브 설교는 강해 설교의 후발 주자이면서 신설교학으로 분류될 만큼 진보적인 학자들에 의해 시작되었지만 21세기에 접어들면서 많은 변화가 생겼다. 강해 설교와 내러티브 설교를 신학적 관점이 아닌 설교학적 관점으로 접근하여 서로에게 꼭 필요한 설교의 형태라는 것을 인정하게 되었다는 것이다. 본고에서 강해 설교와 내러티브 설교의 이해와 강해적 내러티브 설교의 필요성을 논하고, 어떻게 하면 두 가지 다른 형태의 설교의 장점을 결합하여 한 편의 성경적 설교를 할 수 있는 지를 살피면서 강해적 내러티브 설교의 실천적 방향을 모색해 보고자 한다.
