Based on the feminist translation theory, which aims to correct the distorted female images appearing in patriarchal writings, this study examines the translation aspects in English-Korean novel translation on women-related issues and discusses the derived problems. To this end, we select Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, which deals with the subject of feminism, to compare and analyze a number of English-Korean translations from the perspective of feminism. Seven translated texts in Korean are analyzed to figure out to what extent feminist translation strategies were used in them. Based on this, we measure the desirable direction of translation of English-Korean novel translations.

본 연구는 가부장제 글쓰기에 나타나는 왜곡된 여성상을 바로 잡고자 하는 페미니즘 번역이론에 근거하여 여성 관련 이슈에 관한 영한 소설번역에서의 번역 양상을 살펴보고, 파생 가능한 문제들에 대해 논한다. 이를 위해 페미니스트 번역의 관점에서 페미니즘 주제를 다룬 나다니엘 호손(Nathaniel Hawthorne)의 『주홍글자』(The Scarlet Letter)를 선정하여, 다수의 영한 번역본을 페미니즘 관점에서 비교 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 향후 영한 소설번역의 바람직한 번역 방향을 가늠하고자 한다.
