The church grows with the word, but at the same time faces a crisis because there is no word. When the church is said to be at the center of the word, it speaks of the sacrament as the visible word and the sermon as the invisible word. However, in local churches, preaching seems to be more emphasized than the sacraments. Moreover, the proportion of preaching in worship in Reformed Church can be seen by placing sermons at the core of the order of worship. Any Protestant pastor agrees on the importance of preaching, but it seems that he does not spend much time studying what diverse sermon form is for effective communicative preaching. So, a preacher must understand the diverse sermon forms in order to write a good sermon. The preacher must understand the sermon form to make a good sermon. You cannot preach effective communicative way without a proper understanding of the sermon form. Therefore, for the preacher, the study of the sermon form does not simply mean how to outline the preaching, but becomes the preacher's preaching theology for effective and communicative preaching.

교회는 말씀으로 성장하지만 동시에 말씀이 없어 위기를 맞는다. 교회가 말씀 중심에 있다고 할 때 그것은 보이는 말씀으로서 성례와 보이지 않는 말씀으로서 설교를 말한다. 하지만 지역교회들에선 성례전보다는 설교가 더 강조되어 있는 듯이 보인다. 더욱이 개신 교회에서는 설교가 예배 중에 차지하는 비중에 대해서는 예배 순서의 핵심에 설교를 두는 것을 보면 알 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 설교의 중요성에 대하여 개신교 목사라면 누구나 동의하지만 진작 설교를 위한 설교형식 연구에는 많은 시간을 들이지 않는 것 같다. 설교자 는 좋은 설교 작성을 위해 반드시 다양한 설교형식을 이해하고 있어야 한다. 다시 말해서 설교자가 다양한 설교형식에 대해 올바르게 이해하지 못하고 있다면 이는 소통적인 설교를 할 수 없다는 것을 의미한다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 설교자에게 설교형식연구는 단순히 설교의 아웃라인 작성법을 의미하는 것이 아니라 효과적이며 의사소통적인 설교를 위한 설교자의 설교신학이 되는 것이다.
