Japanese intellectual society inside Joseon was formed while Japanese colonizers were conducting a research on the cultural standard of Korean people as a colonization project which Japanese empire had planned as one of the efforts for occupying Joseon. The research was performed academically, which centered on several kinds of surveys for measuring Josean's society as modern statistical indexes including areas such as economy, education, and history etc, aswellastheenforcementsofeducationalpoliciesforthepurposeof thetransformationofKoreanpeople'sconsciousness.Inㅍ1930sthe Government-General of Korea boasted that so called 'the task of civilizing Joseon' had made considerable progress, as is also appeared in the discourses of 'Shin-Joseon(a new Joseon)' which were circulating in about 25th year of the Government-General.JoseonGugwanjedoJosaissuedbythe Government-General was also one example of such discourses, which were produced by Japanese intellectual society inside Joseon. These discourses are characterized as efforts to solve such questions as how Japanese intellectuals inside Joseon self-define themselves, in the process of the exploration of self-definitionoridentification.Thisprocessofself-definitionnecessarily demanded unique rhetorics mixing sophisticatedly both distance and closeness between Joseon and a self as well as Japan and a self. In addition, in this process they tried to relativize their present and future from their past. The 1930s was a period when these methodological approaches were prevalently adopted while their self-definition were rising to a turning point.
To study the Japanese intellectual society inside Joseon during 1930s, It is essential to look through and examine closely the 'dialogues' between nations(languages) as well as the 'monologues' of a individual nation(language). Furthermore, we need to analyze the logics of 'assimilation' and 'exclusion' intermingled inside these dialogues especially to understand the aspects of the existence and relationships of such intellectual society. That's because Japanese inside Joseon identified 'we' through 'they(you)' or 'they' in the process of defining 'we'. Finally, we have to take into consideration the fact that these binary logics were also one of targets for major criticisms. However, this whole discourses including criticisms show us how they tried to fashion the selves which came to assimilate into Joseon land.
