This thesis compared and examined the narrative features, good and evil notions and cultural symbols of good and evil sibling stories in six Asian countries from the perspective of cultural communication. The subjects of study are six works; "The Golden Watermelon" in Indonesia, "Waja and Wira" in Malaysia, "Nolbu and Heungbu" in Korea, "Star Tree Story" in Vietnam, and "Sparrow with Broken Back" in Japan, and "The Shining Golden Watermelon" in Uzbekistan. The six works are fairy tales based on the property conflict between evil and good brothers. The above Asian good and evil sibling stories have the following contents; The good brother accidentally heals the injured bird. In order to repay her grace, the bird gives her younger brother a mysterious seed as a gift. The fruit grows from the seed, and the treasure comes out, and the younger brother becomes rich. The greedy older brother follows his younger brother and fails. The notions of good and evil grasped in the Asian good and evil sibling stories, are identified as the confrontational structure of 'respect for life vs. heartlessness', 'Diligence and simple life ethics vs. greed and stingy life ethics', 'brotherhood vs. property monopoly' etc. Cultural symbols such as Philanthropist Mr. Dermawan, Nolbu, Heungbu characters, etc., Sparrow, Swallow, Stork with broken back, Golden Island, Golden Watermelon, Pumpkin in each story show the cultural symbols of Islamic culture, Confucian culture, and ecological culture.

이 논문은 문화소통의 관점에서 아시아 6개국의 선악형제담의 서사적 특징과 문화요소, 선악관념 및 문화상징을 비교 고찰하였다. 연구대상은 <황금수박>(인도 네시아), <와자와 위라>(말레이시아), <놀부와 흥부>(한국), <별나무 이야기>(베 트남), <허리 부러진 참새>(일본), <빛나는 황금수박>(우즈벡)이다. 이상의 선악형 제담은 형제 간 재산갈등이 핵심 제재이며, 착한 동생이 다친 새를 치료해주며 새의 보은으로 얻은 열매에서 금은 등의 보화가 생겨 부자가 되며, 욕심 많은 형은 동생을 따라 했다가 실패한다는 내용의 서사이다. 일본, 우즈벡 이야기는 주인공이 ‘이웃’인 변이형태로서, 구성이나 내용은 공통적이지만 형제간 재산갈등은 나타나지 않는다. 아시아 선악형제담에서 파악된 선악관념은 ‘생명존중 대 무정함’, ‘근면ㆍ소박의 생활윤리 대 욕심ㆍ인색의 생활윤리’, ‘형제우애 대 재산독점’ 등의 대립구조를 보인 다. 자선가 드르마완ㆍ놀부ㆍ흥부ㆍ인자한 할머니 캐릭터 등, 허리 부러진 참새ㆍ 강남제비ㆍ황새, 황금섬ㆍ황금수박ㆍ박 등의 문화상징은 이슬람문화권, 유교문화 권의 문화적 기호, 생태문화적 세계관 등을 보여준다. 선악형제담에서 파악된 서사, 선악관념 및 문화상징을 활용해 아시아인들의 문화소통 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다.
