The purpose of this study is to objectively view Protestant educational projects in Daejeon after Korean War, exactly in 1950s, through comparison with public and private educational institutions. Since Korean War, Protestantism has provided kindergartens, middle and high schools, universities and alternative education in Daejeon. The purpose of this study is to analyze how much such education is provided through comparisons with public and private educational institutions. The study also looks at the background Protestantism was able to do educational projects in Daejeon. In many cases, Protestantism was able to do educational projects with the help of the American Mission. Exceptionally, there were educational projects carried out by the power of Korean Protestants without the support of the Mission. These are the Daesung School, founded by Ahn Ki-Seok and Kim Seen-Ok, and the Central Kindergarten, founded by the Central Presbyterian Church. Other educational institutions than that were established and operated with the help of the Mission, although there were differences in degree.

본 연구의 목적은 전쟁 이후 1950년대 대전지역의 개신교 교육사업을 공립, 사립교육기관과의 비교를 통해 객관적으로 조망하는 것이다. 전쟁 이후 개신교는 대전지역에서 유치원, 중고등학교, 대학교, 대안교육을 제 공하였다. 이러한 교육 제공의 정도가 공립, 사립교육기관과의 비교를 통 해 어느 정도인지를 분석하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 또한 본 연구는 개신교가 대전지역에서 교육사업을 할 수 있었던 배경 도 살펴본다. 많은 경우 개신교는 미국 선교부의 도움으로 교육사업을 할 수 있었다. 예외적으로 선교부의 지원이 없이 한국 개신교인의 힘으로 진 행된 교육사업들도 있었다. 안기석과 김신옥이 설립한 대성학원과 중앙장 로교회가 설립한 중앙유치원이 그러하였다. 이외에는 정도의 차이는 있지 만, 선교부의 도움으로 설립 및 운영되었다.
