This study set out to investigate Kant's philosophical arguments on culture through his analogies of nature and technology. Kant paid attention to the internal goals of living organisms and understood that organic bodies themselves contained their own goals. In that sense, his arguments opened the possibility to view living organisms as independent subjects of life with no attachment to humans' reason. From the teleological point of Kant, the entire nature can be reviewed in a systematic way, and the ultimate goal of the nature is humans. This position of his reflects the modern anthropocentrism of West. The position of this study, however, is contrary to that, insisting that Kant's true views were nothing like that. Rather, he tried to criticize the teleological judgments and restrict the voluntaries of teleological thoughts. In his teleological standing, Kant maintains that the moral aspects of humans should be considered in understanding the nature, which shows that he sees the goal of the nature as culture not as happiness. In the study, it was stressed that Kant made a clear distinction of nature and technology through the analogies of nature and technology and studied the goals of nature more from the internal process of things rather than the technological points of views, for he regarded the human culture as the culmination of nature.

이 논문에서 필자는 칸트의 자연과 기술의 유비를 통해 그의 문화에 대한 철학적 논증들을 살펴보고자 한다. 칸트는 생물체의 내적 목적에 주목하고, 유기체 그 자체가 목적을 지닌 것으로 이해하였다. 이런 점에서 칸트의 견해는 생물을 인간 이성으로부터 독립된 생명의 주체로 파악할 수 있는 가능성을 열어놓고 있다.칸트의 목적론의 관점에서는 자연 전체를 체계적으로 파악할 수 있고, 그 자연의 최종 목적으로 인간을 내세운다. 이러한 칸트의 관점은 서양의 근대 인간중심주의를 그대로 나타내고 있는 듯이 보인다. 그러나 이 글에서는 칸트의 진정한 관점이 이와는 다르다는 것을 논증하고자 한다. 오히려 칸트는 목적론적 판단력을 비판하고자 했으며, 목적론적 사고의 임의성을 엄격히 제한하고 있기 때문이다. 그의 목적론적 관점은 자연을 이해하는 데 인간의 도덕적 측면을 고려해야 한다고 주장한다. 여기에서 우리는 칸트가 자연의 목적을 행복으로 주장하지 않고 문화로 평가하고 있음을 알 수 있다.필자는 칸트가 자연의 기술이라는 유비 개념으로 자연과 기술의 차이를 명확히 하면서, 기술적 관심에서 점차 사물의 내적 과정을 통해 자연의 목적을 파악하고자 하였음을 강조한다. 왜냐하면, 칸트는 인간의 문화를 자연의 완성으로 간주하고 있기 때문이다.
