This study have five arguments concerning ethical egoism. The first aims to solve problems of misunderstood egoism, empathizing that egoism has been distorted. The second discusses the reason why should be ethical egoist. There are no reasons why mankind have to be enslaved by any altruism which demands self sacrifices. I have my right to live my own life. The third asks whether it is possible to distinguished between ethical egoism and psychological egoism. There is no specific reasons to attribute two theories to each peculiar sphere. The fourth is a respond to critics who have questioned about cooperations of ethical egoists. The answer is that ethical egoists accept reciprocal beneficient cooperations, instead of exclusive self—interests. The five is a conclusion that ethical egoism supports rule egoism. Because of lacking a human nature of unconditional benevolence, observing rules can be achieved by getting self—interest. Concludingly, just only ethical egoism can justify my institutional life of observing rules.

이 논문은 윤리적 이기주의에 관한 연구로서, 크게 다섯 문제를 다룬다. 첫째, 이기주의에 대한 오해이다. 이 부분은 지금까지 이기주의가 크게 왜곡돼 왔음을 밝힌다. 둘째, 왜 윤리적 이기주의이어야 하는가이다. 윤리적 이기주의를 외면해 왔던 까닭은, 특정 종교에 물든 이타주의가 희생과 봉사를 요구해 왔기 때문이다. 셋째, 심리적 이기주의와 윤리적 이기주의가 구별될 수 있는가이다. 심리적 이기주의가 윤리적 이기주의의 성립에 필요조건으로서, 실제로 이 두 가지는 구별되지 않는다. 넷째, 과연 윤리적 이기주의가 협동을 배제하는가이다. 윤리적 이기주의는 배타적으로 이익을 추구하기는커녕 상호 호혜를 이끌어내는 협동의 전략을 구사한다. 다섯째, 윤리적 이기주의는 규칙 이기주의의 발판이다. 인간의 삶은 규칙을 준수하는 제도적 삶이다. 그러나 인간에게는 본성상 규칙을 지키는 성향이 없다. 따라서 규칙의 준수는 자기 이익의 관점에서 이루어지며, 윤리적 이기주의는 이러한 관점을 정당화한다.
