The purpose of the present study was to investigate the peer tutoring program at a university for its better management in the future, and to foster other similar programs. The subjects were a total of 17 tutors and 95 tutees, all of whom participated in the tutoring program for an English writing course. They answered survey questions regarding the program, and additionally tutors were interviewed for the in-depth analysis. The results showed that tutors evaluated the program and their tutoring performances positively, except when it came to their own teaching skills and qualifications. Likewise, tutees were satisfied with the program in which tutors gave direct feedback on their essay assignments, and this in turn led to the improvement of their performance in the English writing course. However, the tutors perceived that the tutoring program needed more organized administrative and educative support from the university. In addition, both tutors and tutees reported that the absence metric of the latter should be increased and enforced with the help of school policy. The following suggestions for the program were also added: the importance of limiting the number of tutees, the need to obtain systematic administrative and educative support, and finally the provision of tutor training sessions.

본 연구는 대학의 영어 글쓰기 교과목과 연계된 튜터링 프로그램의 실태와 문제점을 알아보고 그 개선방안을 제시하기 위한 목적으로 시행되었다. 17명의 튜터 교수자와 95명의 튜티 학습자가 프로그램 에 대한 인식, 만족도, 문제점, 개선점에 관한 설문에 답변하였으며, 튜터 교수자는 추가로 면담에도 참여하였다. 그 결과, 튜터 교수자는 영어 쓰기 교사 자질에는 부족함을 느끼지만 프로그램에 대해 전반적으로 만족하였는데, 과제 첨삭과 교수 활동을 성실히 수행하고 자신의 영어 쓰기 학습역량이 향상된 것에 큰 성취감을 드러냈다. 튜티 학습자의 경우, 튜터링 프로그램을 통해 영어 쓰기 과목의 주요 활동인 작문을 직접 첨삭 받을 수 있고 해당 과목의 복습을 통해 교과 성적이 향상된 것과 튜터의 성실성에 큰 만족감을 표현하였다. 프로그램에 대해 제안할 점으로 튜터 교수자는 행정적, 교육적인 지원을 절실히 요구하였고, 튜티 학습자의 낮은 출석률을 개선할 수 있는 제도적인 방침이 보완되기를 희망하였다. 튜티 학습자 역시 출석, 수업시간 및 튜터링 기간에 관한 제도적인 뒷받침을 희망하였다. 마지막으로, 결과 분석에 따른 교수자 교육 및 행정적, 제도적 개선방안이 제안되었다.
