System theory arose from organism, which is made to explain the vital phenomena different with inanimate object. Ludwig von Bertalanffy widened the organism to cover everything that contains inanimate object. Holism, one of the source theories of system theory, viewed the world as single layered structure. However, system theory regarded this world is multi-layered structure. System theory can be told to be a more developed and widened theory than organism or holism. Chinese scholars tried to explain the characters of Chinese culture with system theory, a few scholars used system theory as a meta theory of East Asian medicine. System theory can be told to be the main meta theory of East Asian medicine in China. System theory provided a meta-view to the traditional medicine of East Asia. However, there is some important problem in that theory: first, this trial can be interpreted to be tautology. The object that is shown through system theory has the characters of system theory; second, there might be a distortion in the interpretation through system theory. System theory contains a final cause. However, this concept is unharmonious with chinese thought. Qi(氣) moves without any cause and object; third, the interpretation through system theory interrupt deeper understanding.

시스템론은 유기체론의 확장이론이다. 기계적 단순인과론의 한계 속에서 생기론이 탄생했고, 생기라는 존재의 무리한 가정이 유기체론의 출현을 초래했다. 버틀란피는 생기론의 한계 속에서 탄생한 유기체론을 다양한 분야에 적용 가능한 인식론적 틀로 재구성해냈다. 시스템론은 일종의 보편적 메타이론이었다. 유물론적 사유로부터 자유롭지 못했던 중국인들은 과학적 표현으로 포장되어 있던 이 이론으로 중국문화를 해명했다. 어떤 이들은 시스템론을 한의학의 메타이론으로 운용하기도 했다. 오행론은 동태평형의 개념으로 해석되었고, 장상론은 흑상론의 특별한 예로 간주되었다. 시스템론이 한의학을 포함하는 동양문화 전반을 바라보는 지평을 제안한 공은 인정받아야 한다. 그러나 시스템론을 이용해서 한의학을 해석하는 방식에는 동어반복과 왜곡 등의 문제가 있다. 시스템론이라는 인식론적 틀로 읽어낸 한의학에서는 시스템론의 특성이 발견될 수밖에 없다. 이런 독해법은 동어반복이라는 혐의에서 자유롭지 못하다. 시스템론은 목적인을 가정하지만, 목적인은 동양의 세계관과 어울리지 않는다. 기론(氣論)은 다층적 존재구조와 어울리지 않는데, 시스템론은 다층적 존재구조를 가정한다. 시스템론을 통해 읽을 때, 한의학의 세계관은 종종 왜곡된다. 특정한 시선을 전제한다는 것은 그런 시선에 구애됨을 함축한다.
