This study examined analytic disputes of Mencius about the order between rightness and utility and the interests between public and private utility. Mencius' analytic dispute about rightness and utility formed the basis of his arguments and accomplished the foundation of his theories. Mencius discussed xing-shan(性善), xīnxìng(心性) and rénzhèng(仁政) on the basis of distinction between rightness and utility. And he argued about rényì(仁義) and shílì(實利) with Mozi(墨子) and criticized jiān'ài(兼愛) of him. Mencius' analytic dispute about rightness and utility was summarized by three contents. First, Mencius accepted the pursuit of utility under the two condition of that. The One was utility must be not a purpose but a means of human. The other was publicness must precedence over privateness. Second, Mencius asserted that morality of rényì must precedence over utility of lì, and than necessity of utility just be approved under the that rule. And third, Mencius argued that morality of rényì pursued as a behavioral motive and a moral rule, and than utility can be accepted as a result or an aim of human behavior.
