One of the liveliest and most persistent debates in contemporary epistemology is maybe the debate internalism-externalism dispute. This internalism-externalism debate is a debate about what sorts of things determine epistemic facts. Internalism about epistemiuc status holds that “inrternal” things determine epistemic facts. More concretely, internalists about epistemic justification hold that only what is “internal” to our minds can be the sort of thing that justifies our beliefs. By contrast, externalists reject this requirement. Externalists about epistemic justification hold that what is “external” to our minds determines epistemic justification. Recently, John Greco have argued against internalism in all of its varieties, asserting that there is no interesting or important property that is also internalist. This paper examines Greco’s argument against internalism in general critically. This paper first considers about precisely what internalists and externalists disagree. To do so, I must clarify about what is internal to our minds and what is external to our minds. And then, I offer Greco’s arguments against motivations that are commonly put forward in favor of internalism about epistemic justification. Finally, I examine his general argument against internalism. I conclude that his arguments against internalism are not successful.
