If the historically amassed human activities, ignoring coexistence of relationships with nature and environment, have been excessive activities, so that mankind today lives a miserable life and the chances of future generation will be denied, the relationships between humankind and nature should be out of anthropocentricism and be newly converted to alternative. In this sense, I believe that the transformation of thought is not an option, but mandatory to humankind. This projects seeking the values of environment and nature is a paradoxical fact because it enables human again to make inquiries, such as ‘What we have to do in this crisis?’ and ‘What kind of people are we in this crisis?’. However, this paradoxical question prompts us to concern about new humane values, which allows us to be a human being living together with nature rather than to dominate it any longer. In this respect, this article first aims to point out limits to the normative ethics dealing with problems among people and its relationships. Also, it is to analyze the meaning of ecological ethics expanding its prospect to nature, and the changeable aspects of discussion topics, depending on issues.

역사적으로 누적된 인간의 활동이 자연과 환경의 공존적 관계를 간과한 과잉적인 것이라면, 그리하여 현재의 인류가 행복하지 못하고 미래의 인류의 가져야 할 행복의 기회마저 박탈될 상황이라면, 인류와 자연과의 관계는 인간 중심주의로부터 벗어나 새롭게 전환되어야만 한다. 그리고 이 사유의 전환은 인류의 선택이 아닌 필연적인 과제가 되었다고 판단된다. 환경과 자연의 가치를 탐색하려는 이러한 탈 인간주의적 기획은 다시 인간이 이러한 위기에서 무엇을 해야 하고, 무엇을 할 수 있는 존재인지를 질문하게 한다는 점에서 역설적이다. 하지만 이 역설적인 질문이 우리로 하여금 더 이상 자연을 지배하는 인간이 아니라 자연과 공존할 수 있는 새로운 인간적 가치를 고민하게 할 것이다. 그러한 맥락에서 본 논문은 일차적으로 인간들 사이의 규범적 문제를 다루는 전통적 규범 윤리학의 한계를 지적하고, 이에 대한 대안으로서 등장한 생태 윤리학의 개념과 의의, 나아가 쟁점에 따라 구분되는 논의의 변화를 대략적으로 검토할 것이다. 윤리의 궁극적인 목적이 인식이 아닌 실천에 있다고 했을 때, 생태 윤리의 특성상 그 의의와 함축을 효과적으로 전달하기 위해서는 일방적 교육이나 정책적 차원이 아닌 한 인간 존재의 각성과 체험을 통해 전달, 확산되어야 할 것이다. 그러한 의미에서 21세기에 들어서면서 급격히 부상하고 있는 생태 관광의 형식이야말로 이러한 생태 윤리적 가치를 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 매개체가 될 수 있으리라 판단된다. 따라서 이후의 논의는 앞서 검토했던 생태 윤리적 가치가 생태관광의 형식으로 효과적으로 이입될 수 있는 특징적 요소들을 검토함으로써 생태윤리에 기반한 생태 관광의 의의를 밝히고자 한다.
