The locus of my cognitive processes is not limited within the cranium, as the extended mind thesis persuasively maintains. In the same vein, physical territory of myself would not be limited within my skin either, but extend over and beyond the boundary of my physiological body. Where, then, is to draw the physical boundary of a person? Do the prostheses, such as prosthetic legs, robotic hand, or a neurochip, fall within or out of the boundary? If it depends on the case, what shall be the principle of judgment? These are practical questions that have metaphysical, legal, and social implications. With these questions in its scope, this paper examines Daniel Dennett’s view on this matter, that control(-lability) is the ultimate criterium, and Lynne R. Baker’s view that a bionic part should be causally integrated with the physiological body, by being durably placed in the body or firmly attached to the skin, in order to be a part of the person. It extracts the common wisdom contained in those views, the condition of informational unity, which demands that every legitimate part of a person share and contribute to the informational unity that the person sustains for herself.
