We might say that the relation between human being and the world is composed of experience. We can also say that experience is judging a judgment whether the judging is made consciously or unconsciously. Therefore, considering Kant’s the power of judgment is associated with the fundamental question which deals with the manner how human being is related to the world. This paper which has above background will consider the determining power of judgment and the reflecting power of judgment concretely. The judgment of cognition which is thematized in the Critique of Pure Reason is the main province of the determining power of judgment to which the universal is already given. By contrast, In the case of judgment of taste, there is no universal to subsume the particular, so we need the reflecting power of judgment to find the universal. At first glance, the determining power of judgment which descends to the particular from the universal and the reflecting power of judgment which ascends to the universal from the particular act independently; the former in the field of cognition, but the latter in the field of beautiful(art, sublime). I think that traditional interpretations did not dig into the relation between two powers of judgment because they generally had premised that two powers of judgment are irrelevant to each other and limited to different field. Once again, this paper throws the following question. Is the intention of Kant’s distinction between the determing power of judgment and the reflecting power of judgment really means that two different powers of judgment act separately in different field? Through revealing that the activity of the reflecting power of judgment is necessary when the determining power of judgment actually descends to the particular from the universal, the auther attempts to read out Kant’s discernment about the power of judgment.

우리 인간과 세계의 관계는 경험에서 이루어진다고 말할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 경험이란, 의식적이든 무의식적이든 혹은 현재적이든 잠재적이든 어떠한 판단을 내리는 것이라고도 말할 수 있겠다. 따라서 칸트의 “판단력” 개념에 대하여 고찰하는 것은, 판단을 통해 과연 우리 인간은 세계와 어떠한 방식으로 관계하고 있는가라는 근본적인 물음과도 깊은 연관이 있을 것이다. 위와 같은 배경을 갖는 본고는, 구체적으로는 칸트 철학에서의 규정적 판단력과 반성적 판단력을 고찰하고자 한다. 보편적인 것이 미리 주어져 있는 규정적 판단력의 본령을 이루고 있는 곳은 인식판단이다. 하지만, 취미판단을 내리는 경우에는, 그러한 인식판단에서처럼 특수한 것을 포섭하기 위한 보편적인 것이 미리 주어져 있지 않기 때문에, 보편적인 것을 찾아내기 위한 반성적 판단력이 필요하다. 이처럼 얼핏 보기에, 보편으로부터 특수로 하강하는 규정적 판단력은 인식의 영역에서, 그리고 특수로부터 보편으로 상승하는 반성적 판단력은 미(예술, 숭고)의 영역에서 각각 독립적으로 활동하는 것처럼 보이기도 한다. 종래의 일반적인 해석은, 위의 두 판단력을 각자 다른 영역에 한정된 무관한 것이라고 암묵적으로 전제한 뒤, 양자의 관계에 대하여 더 이상 파고들지 않았다고 여겨진다. 본고는, 칸트가 규정적 판단력과 반성적 판단력을 구분하는 진의가, 양자는 각각 다른 영역에서 무관하게 활동하는 판단력이라는 점을 드러내려고 하는 것인가에 대하여 다시 한 번 물음을 던져 보고자 한다. 나아가서는, 규정적 판단력이 보편으로부터 특수로 실제로 하강할 경우에는, 반성적 판단력의 활동이 불가피함을 드러냄으로써, 판단력에 대한 칸트의 통찰을 읽어내고자 한다.
