The purpose of this paper is to understand Benjamin’s philosophy of history through his concept of ‘collector.’ The ‘Collector’ is very closely related to his philosophy of history, because Eduard Fuchs: Collector and Historian considerably preoccupies his last work, Theses on the Philosophy of History. Benjamin is rethinking the meaning of ‘ownership,’ the basis of the act of collecting, showing the true nature of a "genuine collector". And the nature of this collector is none other than historian. The theme of the ‘construction of history’, which is at the heart of Benjamin's philosophy of history, is in line with the collector's praxis of owning past experiences. Also the construction of history is inseparable from the concept of ‘Apokatasis’ in Messianism, which shows the intimate relationship between the philosophy of history and Jewish Messianism in Benjamin’s thought.
