The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret Kim In-hoo's Chonmyungdo(「天命圖」) in terms of emotion theory. His diagram expresses the problem of human nature, fostering and moral practice through the problem of coordination of emotions. First, zhong(中) in his diagram signifies feelings not triggered by external objects. Second, in the diagram, yu(欲) includes six emotions as emotions representing seven emotions. Third, emotion changes into various emotions through interaction with external objects, and acts as a driving force of action. Fourth, the problem of moral good and bad is determined by emotional coordination. Fifth, the coordination of emotion is determined by the cognitive function and thought action of the mind. When problems arise in the functioning of the mind, the emotions are not coordinated and cause human actions to flow into evil. Sixth, jing(敬) allows the emotions to be expressed according to the situation by making the functions of the mind work well. Through the cultivation of emotions, human beings grow into individuals who practice good conduct on their own personalities, and become emotional individuals who contribute to the harmony and peace of the community on the social side.

본 논문은 김인후의『천명도(天命圖)』를 감정론의 관점에서 재해석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 김인후의「천명도」는 감정의 중절(中節) 문제를 통해 인간의 본성과 수양 그리고 도덕실천의 문제를 표현하고 있다. 첫째, 김인후의「천명도」에 보이는 중(中)은 미발의 감정을 의미한다. 둘째, 김인후의「천명도」에서 욕(欲)은 칠정을 대표하는 감정으로서 나머지 여섯 개의 감정을 포괄한다. 셋째, 감정은 외부사물과의 상호작용을 통해 다양한 감정으로 변화하며, 행동의 추동력으로 작용한다. 넷째, 도덕적 선악의 문제는 감정 발현의 중절(中節)과 과불급(過不及)에 의해 결정된다. 다섯째, 감정의 중절과 과불급은 심의 인식작용과 사유작용에 의해 결정된다. 심의 주재 기능의 상실은 감정 발현의 과불급을 초래하여 인간의 행위를 악으로 흐르게 한다. 여섯째, 경(敬)은 심의 주재기능을 잘 발휘되도록 함으로써 감정이 상황에 맞게 발현되게 한다. 인간은 감정의 수양을 통해 개인적 측면에서 선한 행위를 실천하는 존재로 성장하고 사회적 측면에서 공동체의 화합과 평화에 기여하는 감성적 인격을 갖춘 존재로 변모하게 된다.
