This article is to analyze ‘historical consciousness shown from the world view of Yeonam Park Jiwon,’ focusing on Yeolhailgi. As is generally known, Park Jiwon was one of Bukhak School; Hong Daeyong’s idea of natural science influenced him that he supported earth theory and heliocentric theory and; he both accepted and developed Hong Daeyong’s Sino-Barbarian theory in terms of his historical consciousness and then argued Bukhak. In other words, Hong Daeyong established theoretical grounds for imperativeness of Bukhak; Park Jiwon, based on those grounds, suggested Bukhak that ‘advanced culture of Qing should be embraced’ and; Park Jega developed Park Jiwon’s Bukhak more specifically and systematically. Park Jiwon particularly argued not only the imperativeness of Bukhak but further, legitimism of Qing Dynasty. He viewed that, though the China region was ruled by barbarian, culture of Qing still inherited that of Ming. However, Park Jiwon’s stance toward culture can be assumed with his saying “Royal crowns of Yin and Zhou followed their systems of the time respectively but why should we only doubt Qing people’s wild-goose feather?”, which implies he had a point of autonomy and independence of culture based on cultural relativism.

이 논문은 ‘연암 박지원의 세계관에 나타난 역사의식’을 『열하일기』를 중심 으로 분석한 글이다. 주지하다시피 박지원은 북학파의 한 사람으로, 그는 홍대용의 자연과학사상에 영향을 받아 지구설과 지전설을 옹호했으며, 역사의 식에 있어 홍대용의 화이론을 수용하고 이를 발전시켜 북학을 주장하였다. 즉, 홍대용이 북학의 당위성에 대한 이론적 근거를 마련하였다면, 박지원은 이를 바탕으로 ‘청의 선진 문물을 수용’해야 한다는 북학을 제기하였으며, 박 제가는 박지원의 북학론을 보다 구체적이면서 체계적으로 전개하였다. 특히 박지원은 북학의 당위성뿐만 아니라, 이에 더 나아가 청 왕조 정통론 을 주장하였다. 비록 이민족이 중화를 지배하고 있지만, 여전히 청(淸)의 문화 는 명(明)의 문화를 계승하고 있다고 보았다. 그러나 박지원의 문화에 대한 입 장은 “은의 관과 주의 면류관이 각각 때의 제도를 따른 것인데, 하필 청나라 사람의 홍모만 의심하겠는가?”라고 한데서 짐작할 수 있듯이, 문화상대주의에 입각한 문화의 자주성과 독자성을 견지한 것이라 하겠다.
