One of the surgical instruments used for laparoscopic surgery in hospitals, the suction and irrigation catheter with the function of electrocautery is currently the most used Ethicon Probe Plus II manufactured by Johnson & Johnson in the United States. This product is composed of electrocautery, suction and irrigation operating buttons all at the upper surface of the product, which has advantage for users with relatively small hands. However, it also has the disadvantage of malfunction for unfamiliar user or user with large hands. In particular, when the electrocautery button, and the suction and irrigation operating button are operated at the same time, a dangerous situation leading to an accident during surgery may occur. For this reason, a study was performed to improve the appearance and function of a suction and irrigation tube with electrocautery function. In order to collect the needs of users, a survey was conducted with doctors and nurses working in operating rooms. A total of 83 people participated in the survey and submitted responses. The exterior shape was developed based on the pistol shape, and the semi-pistol type product appearance was developed to meet the needs of the pencil shape preference. In the upper part, the electrocautery button is placed on the top of product, and the surface of the cutting button was covered with yellow painting and the coagulation button was covered with blue painting, so that the function can be visually recognized. Convenience in operation was considered by using the thumb while holding the handle. With the results of the survey, it was confirmed that the medical staff working in the operating room preferred the familiar color and low stable color tone of the surgical device product, and the convenience in use of the product rather than the external shape was considered first when choosing the product.

병원에서 복강경 수술시 사용하는 수술기구 중 하나인 전기 소작 기능을 가진 점적 흡인 관은 미국 존슨 앤드 존슨 사가 제조한 Ethicon Probe Plus II 제품이 한국에서 현재 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 이 제품은 전기 소작기와 점적 흡인 작동 버튼들이 제품 사용 시 위치 기준으로 상단부에 모두 모여 있는 형태로 제작되어 있어 손이 비교적 작은 사용자에게는 유리한 측면이 있지만, 사용이 익숙하지 않거나 손이 큰 사용자는 동시에 여러 개의 작동 버튼들이 눌려 오작동 될 수 있는 형태이다. 특히 전기 소작기 버튼과 점적 흡인 동작 버튼들이 동시에 눌려 작동되는 경우에는 수술 중 위험한 상황이 연출될 수 있다. 이에 전기 소작 기능을 가진 점적 흡인 수술기구의 외형개선과 기능개선을 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 외형 디자인연구 시 사용자들의 요구를 파악하고자 설문조사를 진행하여 총 83명의 답변을 제출받았다. 외관 형태는 권총 형태를 근간으로 개발하고 연필 형태 선호에 대한 요구를 맞추기 위해 세미 권총형의 제품 외형을 개발하였다. 제품 상단에 전기 소작기 버튼을 위치시키고 버튼의 모양에 절삭 버튼은 황색, 응고 버튼에는 청색을 입혀서 기능을 직관적으로 파악할 수 있게 하였고 모양도 손잡이를 잡은 상태로 엄지손가락을 이용하여 작동 시 편리성을 고려하였다. 설문조사를 통해서 수술실에서 근무하는 의료진들은 익숙한 색채와 다소 채도가 낮은 안정적인 색채 톤을 선호함을 알 수 있었고 외형 모양보다는 사용 편리함을 제품 선택 시 우선하여 선택하였음을 확인하였다.
