Purpose : This study was conducted to increase understanding of Laos, which is rapidly developing in Southeast Asia, and to seek related support plans. Therefore, economy and major industries in Laos were also examined. Research design, data, methodology : Laos is located in the center of the Indochina peninsula and was occupied by France in the past. He then became independent and had a long civil war and switched to a socialist state in the mid-1970s. It has been developing rapidly by opening a financial market with the implementation of new opening policies. Korea and Laos established diplomatic relations in 1974 and have continued to cooperate with each other. Results : This study has reviewed the current status of local economy and major projects, and considered countermeasures in order to increase understanding of Laos, which is showing new potential with high growth rate recently. In particular, we focused on the hydroelectric development in the Mekong River basin. Among these, it is necessary to expand the local human network and focus on long-term investment based on local advancement, not short-term consumption market. Conclusions : It is necessary to continually develop measures to strengthen government support through ODA as a medium and to select and provide detailed support to companies that match.

본 연구는 동남아시아에서 빠르게 발전하고 있는 라오스의 경제와 주요 산업들을 살펴봄으로써 라오스에 대한 이해도를 높이고 지원에 따른 방안들을 모색하기 위하여 진행하였다. 라오 스는 인도차이나 반도 중심에 위치하고 있으며 과거 프랑스에 점령되었다. 그 후 독립하였고 오랜 동안 내전을 겪었으며 1970년대 중반에 사회주의 국가로 전환하였다. 새로운 개방정책의 시행과 금융시장을 개방함으로써 최근 들어 신속히 발전하고 있다. 한국과 라오스는 1974년에 외교관계를 수립하였고 상호간 협력 관계를 지속적으로 이어오고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 최 근에 높은 성장률을 기록하며 새로운 잠재력을 보이고 있는 라오스의 현지 경제 현황과 주요 사업들을 살펴보았고 대응 방안들을 고찰하였다. 특히 메콩강 유역의 수력발전을 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 관련 방안으로 인적 네트워크를 확대하고 단기 소비시장이 아닌 현지 진출을 기 반으로 장기 투자에 집중해야한다. 또한 ODA를 매개로 정부 지원 강화와 이에 부합되는 기업 들을 선별하고 세부적으로 지원하는 방안을 지속적으로 개발해야한다.
