The The purpose of this study is to present the personality virtues of Taekwondo leaders based on studying abroad. The representative philosophers of Confucian personality theory are Confucius and Mencius. In this study, the personality virtues of Taekwondo leaders were investigated based on the theory of personality of Confucius and Mencius. Based on the ideas of Confucius and Mencius, the virtues of humanity necessary for a Taekwondo leader are humanity and righteousness, propriety, wisdom(仁義禮智). For Taekwondo leaders, humanity(仁) means to control the body and to abandon private desires. For Taekwondo leaders, righteousness(義) means honoring and following the superior. For a Taekwondo leader, propriety(禮) means respecting the teacher, courtesy toward seniors, courtesy toward juniors, and respectfulness toward the other person. For a Taekwondo leader, wisdom(智) means covering up an argument, that is, knowing how to accurately judge right and wrong. In other words, a taekwondo leader needs a personality virtue that must abandon personal desires, respect and follow superiors, be polite to teachers and seniors and juniors, and know how to accurately judge right and wrong.

본 연구의 목적은 유학에 근거하여 태권도지도자의 인성 덕목을 제시하는데 있다. 유교 인성론의 대표 철학자는 공자와 맹자이다. 본 연구에서는 공자와 맹자의 인성론에 근거하여 태권도지도자의 인성 덕목을 고찰하였다. 공자와 맹자 의 사상을 바탕으로 태권도지도자에게 필요한 인성 덕목은 인의예지(仁義禮智)로서 다음과 같다. 태권도지도자에게 있 어서 인(仁)이란 몸을 검속하고 사사로운 욕망을 버림을 의미한다. 태권도지도자에게 있어서 의(義)는 윗사람을 공경하 고 따르는 것을 의미한다. 태권도지도자에게 있어서 예(禮)는 스승에 대한 예의, 선배에 대한 예의, 후배에 대한 예의, 상대방에 대한 예의를 지키는 것을 의미한다. 태권도지도자에게 있어서 지(智)는 시비를 가리는 것, 즉 옳고 그름을 정확 하게 판단할 줄 알아야 함을 의미한다. 즉, 태권도지도자는 사사로운 욕망을 버리고, 윗사람을 공경하고 따르고, 스승과 선후배에게 예의를 지키고, 옳고 그름을 정확하게 판단할 줄 알아야 하는 인성 덕목이 필요하다
