This study aims to re-examine the history of the inter-Korean sports exchange and cooperation and to present the revitalization of the inter-Korean sports exchange by analyzing the value of the use of the unified team with South and North Korea athletes. First, by re-examining the history of the inter-Korean sports exchange and cooperation, it showed that the successful results of the unified team at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, and international competitions in 2018. Second, the continuous formation of the unified team with South and North Korea athletes has opened up the possibility of the solidarity with cultures and arts as well as the expansion of the inter-Korean sports exchange and has served as the driving force to open up a wide range of inter-Korean exchanges through sports, amid the difficult international circumstances such as the UN sanctions against North Korea, nuclear and missile issues, and THAAD arrangements. Third, this study proposes that as a means to seek revitalization of the inter-Korean sports exchange, it is necessary to expand the exchanges in various fields through a unified team. Moreover, economic cooperation such as sports marketing and sports industry should be sought through the unification of inter-Korean sports leagues by the continuous formation of the unified team, as well as by continuous exchanges and friendly competitions. Lastly, the foundation of a continuous and long-term inter-Korean sports exchanges should be established, such as holding specialized training sessions, by fostering specialized organizations and experts.

본 연구의 목적은 한반도평화를 위한 남북교류수단으로서 남북단일팀의 활용가치와 남북스포츠교류의 활성화방 안을 제시하는데 있다. 첫째, 남북스포츠교류는 한민족의 정체성을 확인하는 계기가 되었고, 한반도의 화합과 평화를 위한 남북관계개선에 견인차 역할을 하였다. 둘째, 지속적으로 이루어진 남북단일팀은 유엔의 대북제재와 핵ㆍ미사일 문제, 사드문제 등 국제사회 어려운 환경임에도 불구하고 남북스포츠교류의 확대뿐만 아니라 문화와 예술분야와의 연대 가능성을 열며 스포츠 외교와 남북교류의 큰 폭을 여는 역할을 하였다. 셋째, 남북스포츠교류 활성화 방안을 제시하면, 남북스포츠교류를 통해 학술, 방송, 예술 등 다양한 문화 컨텐츠와 접목하여 다양한 분야의 교류를 확산시켜 한민족으로서 의 동질감과 통일에 대한 인식을 이끌어 내어야 한다. 그리고 지속적인 남북단일팀 구성은 물론, 교환ㆍ친선대회 등을 유지 전승하여 남북한 스포츠리그의 단일화로 경제협력이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 또한, 스포츠전문성의 다각적 교류 협력을 위한 전문기구와 전문가를 양성하여 지속적이고 장기적인 남북스포츠교류의 기반을 구축하여야 할 것이다.
