Recently, fashion enterprises considering the social responsibility of fashion are developing a lot of projects to practice the sustainability. This study paid attention to RE;CODE as a representative case in the domestic fashion brands. RE;CODE has been satisfying needs of contemporary consumers thinking highly of individuality through small-sized production using stock or limited production of clothes with the same design but a little different detail. Based on the analysis on the design development methods and formative characteristics of RE;CODE, the research aimed to develop sustainable fashion design products of a new mode. It adopted literature research, case study of sustainable practice by fashion companies and 418 RE;CODE products launched between 2012 and 2019. As a result of analyzing the design development process based on its sequence for RE;CODE products, a variety of design methods were shown from clothes deconstructed and recombined using inventories in the RE;CODE collections. Furthermore, in the analysis based on design methods, the study derived the ‘originality of simplicity’, ‘finish of the unfinished’, ‘balance of imbalance’ and ‘reorganization of position’ as formative characteristics of RE;CODE. Finally, based on the analytic findings, 4 fashion designs were developed and produced. To practice a basic concept of the sustainable fashion design which adds the new to the old, the study adopted the secondhand traditional Hanbok as a material and designed evening dresses RE;CODE does not have. The research used design methods implemented by RE;CODE but expanded a horizon of the sustainable fashion design beyond limitations to material or type RE;CODE has. It contributes to studies on the sustainable fashion design development pursuing future-oriented and creative methodologies.

오늘날 패션 산업은 환경문제 등에 대한 사회적 책임을 고려하며 다양한 형태의 지속가능 프로젝트를 실 천하고 있다. 본 연구는 그 대표적인 사례로서 국내의 패션브랜드 래;코드에 주목하였다. 래;코드는 재고의 소각으로 인한 환경피해와 물질적 낭비에 대한 자각으로 시작되었으며, 재고를 활용하여 소량 제작하거나 같은 디자인이라도 디테일이 조금씩 다른 의상들을 한정적으로 생산하고 있어 개인의 개성을 중요시하는 현대 소비자의 니즈를 충족시키고 있다. 본 연구는 래;코드의 디자인 개발 방법과 조형적 특성을 분석하고 이를 토대로 새로운 방식의 지속가능 패션디자인 작품을 개발하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 지속가능 패션에 대한 문헌 연구와 기업 사례를 고찰하고, 2012년부터 2019년까지 발표된 래;코드 제품 418점을 대상 으로 디자인 방법을 분석하고 4점의 작품을 개발 및 제작하였다. 우선 사례 연구의 결과로서 래;코드의 재고 를 활용한 해체 및 재조합 제품에서 디자인 개발의 순서를 중심으로 분석한 결과, ‘형태의 겹침’, ‘형태의 왜곡’, ‘형태의 결합’, ‘형태의 분할’ 그리고 ‘부분의 강조’라는 5가지의 디자인 방법이 논의되었으며 ‘단순함 의 독특함’, ‘미완성의 완성’, ‘불균형의 균형’, ‘위치의 재편성’이라는 4가지 조형적 특성이 도출되었다. 이를 활용하여 본 연구는 오래된 것에 새로움을 덧입힌다는 지속가능 패션디자인의 기본개념을 실천하기 위해 중고 전통한복을 소재로 채택하였으며, 래;코드에 나타나지 않은 이브닝 드레스 4점을 개발 및 제작하였다. 본 연구는 래;코드가 구축한 디자인 방법을 활용하되, 래;코드가 지닌 재료나 복종의 한계를 넘어 지속가능 패션디자인의 지평을 확장했으며, 미래지향적이며 창조적인 개발 방법을 추구하는 지속가능 패션디자인 개 발 연구에 기여한다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
