This paper identifies the obsession with tea of Chusa Kim Jeong-hee, and investigated the correlation among Zen Words used in Chusa’s letters and poetry about tea, and his esthetic boundaries. During the course of the study, it was possible to identify that Chusa was extremely knowledgeable in the Questions for Buddhist Meditation and freely used them, according to the letters to and from his edge of tea and the contents of poetry about tea. There were some examples for this. First, it was possible to identify a tone of the Zen Family's that quote the Questions for Buddhist Meditation in his letters such as “趙州無字, 庭前栢樹, 馬祖喝, 德山棒” when he asked for tea. Second, Chusa conveyed Zen Taste by using Zen words such as “empty space, mountains, the sound of the pine trees, pine tree forest, white clouds, sound of the wind, silence” in his poetry. The boundaries of the Questions for Buddhist Meditation that are related include “國師三喚, 揚眉瞬目, 卽心卽佛, 平常心佛,” which showed that the quotes that he easily used are based on the aesthetic of Tea Zen. Lastly, tea practice of Zhiguan which is the topic of Chusa’s painting 'Hambyeoksansuchuk' can be interpreted as the aesthetics of Tea Zen. Such evidence shows that the esthetic boundaries of Chusa are revealed as the divine language through letters, poetry and words in paintings. Chusa had a great obsession for tea. He wrote desperate letters to drink and ask for tea, and he expressed his gratitude to the universe and nature that developed tea and the relationships that he made while drinking tea. This can also be linked to the esthetic boundaries related to Tea Zen. This study overcomes the simple perspective on Chusa’s obsessions for tea. Rather. The paper investigated the relationship of tea with Chusa’s internal esthetic boundaries, and the correlations of Tea Zen and the use of the divine language.

본고는 秋史 金正喜의 茶癖을 이해하고, 추사의 편지와 茶詩에 활용된 禪語가 그의 심미경계와 어떠한 연관성이 있는지에 관하여 고찰하였다. 진행과정에서 추사가 茶緣들과 주고받은 편지와 茶詩의 내용을 살폈을 때 추사는 화두선에 상당한 일가견이 있었고 화두활용 또한 자유로웠음을 확인하였다. 그 예로 첫째는 추사의 편지 내용에는 차를 보내달라고 하면서 사용한 “趙州無字, 庭前栢樹, 馬祖喝, 德山棒” 등 화두를 인용한 선가적 어투를 확인하였고, 둘째는 詩의 내용에서 “허공, 산, 솔 소리, 솔숲, 흰 구름, 바람소리, 고요함” 등의 禪語를 사용하여 禪味를 담아냈다는 점이며 그에 연관된 화두경계로는 “國師三喚, 揚眉瞬目, 卽心卽佛, 平常心佛” 등에서 추사가 화두 활용에 능숙했고 그 활용된 화두는 茶禪적 審美에서 비롯된다는 점을 엿볼 수 있다. 마지막으로 추사의 그림 <함벽산수축> 화제의 내용인 ‘茶修止觀’도 다선의 심미로 이해할 수 있다. 이렇게 제시한 근거들은 추사의 심미경계가 편지와 시, 화제를 통해서 선어로 드러나고 있음을 알 수 있다. 대단한 다벽을 가졌던 추사는 차를 마시고 차를 구하는 일에도 절실함을 담아 편지를 썼고, 차를 받고 마실 때는 차를 키워준 우주자연, 다연들에게도 감사의 회향을 함께하였다. 이 또한 다선적 심미경계로 연관 지을 수 있다. 본고는 추사의 다벽에 관한 단편적인 시각에서 벗어나, 茶가 추사 내면의 선적 심미경계와 무슨 연관성이 있는지, 다선과 선어 활용의 심미에 관하여 조명하였다.
