This study at the dynamics of the system's emotions and the corresponding new emotions that are revealed in Chae Man-sik's novels of the liberation period. Furthermore, analyze how Chae Man-sik’s novels portray liberation and the new generation through the emotions of the characters. The U.S. military government, which took over power from the Japanese colonial government, is described as suspending colonial-era officials and systems to take the initiative in forming a governing system. In particular, the U.S. military administration chose to maintain its anger and injects it into Koreans. Chae tried to turn his aspiration into anger by framing communism to prevent independence. The older generation, who do not reflect on their pro-Japanese activities, recognize their fall from power as a deprivation of their natural rights. The older generation attributes their anger to communism as the system incites them to. On the other hand, the new generation tries to reject anger by finding contradictions in the older generation. This was a critical view of the older generation as well as the current system, so they naturally expand their reasons to form a new system and future.

본고는 채만식의 해방기 소설 속에 드러나는 감정 체제와 이에 대응하 는 새로운 감정의 동학을 살펴본다. 인물들이 체현하는 감정 양상을 분석 하여 작가가 어떤 방식으로 해방 정국과 신구세대를, 나아가 스스로를 바 라보고 있었는지 보려 했다. 채만식의 해방기 소설 속에는 구세대와 신세대, 그리고 중간자의 역할 을 하는 ‘나’가 등장한다. ‘나’는 작가의 투영체처럼 움직이며 각 세대를 조 망한다. 이때 ‘나’는 이중의 투사로 생성되는 감정인 수치심의 주체로 구 세대와 신세대 모두와 밀접하게 연관된다. 수치심은 타자(신세대)가 보는 나(구세대)를 바라보는 나(‘나’)라는 이중의 구조 속에 작동하며 주체의 현 재 상태를 성찰하게 하는 감정이다. 그러므로 소설 속 구세대는 ‘나’의 부 정성을 극대화하는 존재들이지만 완전히 부정할 수 없으며 신세대는 불 완전할지라도 ‘나’가 닮고 싶은 존재이다. 일제에게 정권을 이양받은 미군정청은 통치 체제 구성의 주도권을 잡 기 위해 식민지 시대의 관료와 시스템을 그대로 유예한다. 또한 공산주의 를 배격하기 위해 분노라는 감정 체제를 주입하려 한다. 반성 없는 기성세대는 몰락의 원인을 제대로 보지 못하며 분노한다. 반면 신세대들은 기성세대의 모순을 발견하며 분노를 평온함으로 전환하려 한다. 이는 기성세대는 물론 당대 체제까지 비판적으로 바라보는 일이었 으므로, 그들은 자연스럽게 새로운 체제와 미래 모습을 구성하는 데로 사 유를 확장시켜 나간다. 이처럼 해방기 채만식 소설의 초점을 반성하는 주체가 아닌 감정을 주고 받는 주체에 입각하여 독해하면 작품의 풍부한결을 볼 수 있다.
