The organicity between the body as heterotopia and agrarian culture in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry is analyzed in this paper to discover the most basic and universal desire that is dreamed of by humans. The “desire for a giant body” receives primary attention for making this argument clear. The incarnated giant body in myths and tales is the best example of a bodily utopia transcending the natural weakness and limitations of human beings. The urinary force of Esq. Yi's wife or the monstrous force of Hoo-Nyeo in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry illustrate a body as heterotopia transcending what Michel Foucault called “the imposed body.” The emergence of these forceful characters like giants in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry relates to the defense of healthy physicality as a requirement in agrarian culture. Another body as heterotopia in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry relates to an ecstasy of Eros. This body is a secret place pouring out or putting in its fire, blood, beast and loneliness. An external place meeting with this body is to be a maze symbolizing the “backwater of musky-mint.” As secret and erotic spaces within the agrarian place, these spaces become significations of “external spaces” differing from the laboring spaces of agriculture. The perfect combination of heterotopic bodies with external spaces receiving the desires of these bodies entirely is to be a real utopia that is universally dreamed of by humans.
