This study aims to identify the impact of gender equality and work-family balance on attitude toward the necessity of having children. The survey data were collected from 800 adults aged 19 years and older living in the D region of Busan, Korea, and analyzed using SPSS 25.0 statistical package for descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and multiple regression. The results showed that a high perception of gender equality was significantly associated with a positive attitude toward the necessity of having children. However, those experiencing more difficulties with work-family balance felt more burden of child rearing and had a negative perception toward the necessity of having children. On the other hand, the perception of utilizing work-family balance policy did not have a significant effect on the necessity of having children. Based on these findings, this study suggested the importance of work-family balance based on the perception of gender equality as a way to overcome the low fertility and provided implications for population and family welfare policies.

본 연구는 양성평등과 일⋅가정 양립이 자녀필요성에 미치는 영향을 파악하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 부산광역시 D 자치구의 인구정책 수립을 위해 진행된 설문조사 데이터를 활용하였으며, 19세 이상 성인 총 800명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 분석은 SPSS 25.0을 활용하여 기술통계분석, 독립 표본 t 검증, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 양성평등에 대한 인식 수준이 높을수록 자녀필요 성에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하였다. 반면에 일⋅가정 양립의 어려움을 많이 경험할수록 자녀양육에 대한 부담을 크게 느끼고 자녀에 대해 부정적으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 일⋅가정 양립제 도 활용 인식은 자녀필요성에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이상의 연구결과를 통해 본 연구는 저출산 문제를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 양성평등적 인식에 기반한 일⋅가정 양립의 중요성을 제기 함과 동시에 인구 및 가족복지정책에서의 함의를 제시하였다.
