Il Trittico (the triptych), known as one of the best pieces of Giacomo Puccini, and La Divina Commedia (the divine comedy) by Dante Alghieri, considered to be the most important poem of the Middle Ages and the greatest literary work in the Italian language, have been reviewed separately by many researchers. However, there have not been researches on the relationship between Il Trittico and La Divina Commedia. In this study, these two pieces were reviewed and compared from various aspects. Giacomo Puccini simply commented that he borrowed the formats of La Divina Commedia to write Il Trittico. As it can been seen in La Divina Commedia, which is divided into three cantiche: Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Paradise), Il Trittico consists of three operas: Il Tabarro, Sour Angelica, and Gianni Schicchi. Along with the analogy in the formats of these two pieces, a great deal of similarity can be found in characters, stories, and underlying intentions. This study provides theoretical background for those music scholars and performers to understand Il Trittico in depth. Additionally, topics on the researches on La Divina Commedia can be expanded to fields of music and many other artistic genres.

본 연구는 푸치니의 오페라 <삼부작- Il Trittico>과 단테의 『신곡- La Divina Commedia』의 연관성을 찾는 과정이다. 이를 통해서 콘텐츠의 재생산 가능성을 확인해 보고자 하였다. 두 작품의 연관성을 명시적으로 언급한 연구를 찾기가 매우 어렵다. <삼부작> 연구에서 『신곡』과의 연관성을 언급한 것은 『신곡』에서 형식적인 아이디어를 차용했다는 정도이다. 그러나 두 작품의 연관성에 관한 연구는 오페라를 좀 더 심도 있게 고찰하는데 중요한 의미가 있다. 이러한 연구는 푸치니 <삼부작>을 연구하는 많은 음악가와 연주자들에게 학문적 토대를 제공할 뿐만 아니라 단테를 연구하는 학자에게도 연구 소재의 다변화에 대한 길라잡이가 될 수 있다고 판단한다. 연구자는 두 작품의 연구를 통해서 한국에서 공연되는 푸치니의 오페라를 새로운 시각에서 재해석하고자 하였다. 결론적으로 <삼부작>은 단테의 『신곡』에서 소재를 가져왔을 뿐만 아니라 신곡의 <지옥-Inferno>, <연옥-Purgatorio>, <천국-Paradiso>의 형식도 차용하였다. 게다가 등장인물, 내용, 사상적 측면에서도 영향을 받았음을 두 작품의 비교를 통하여 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 새로운 버전으로 삼부작을 재해석하는 것은 새로운 창작이기 때문에 많은 시간을 필요로 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 두 작품을 비교한 결과가 새로운 연구 방향을 제시했다는 점에 만족하고자 한다.
