This paper analyzed the formation mechanism and semantic strictness of korean asyntactic compounds in the view of the distance iconicity. The principle of proximity is reflected in the formation of asyntactic compound that shows antonymous or significant relation within the word. The association strength between antonym is very high and the conceptual distance is close. The synonym can appear in the same location and direct the same object because of the close conceptual distance. Finally, the stems of antonym or synonym are combined to form asyntactic compounds according to the proximity principle. In addition, the asyntactic compounds have the meaning of ‘repeating motion’ that the other composition cannot express. According to the principle of directness, asyntactic compounds can show the abstract meanings or various meanings because the components are directly combined without the connective ending. The effect of components became stronger, resulting in more abstract meanings or various meanings. On the other hand, syntactic compounds show the distance between components because of the connective ending, therefore, the strength of the effect between the two stems decreases. The morphological strictness and semantic strictness of Korean asyntactic compound words are matched.

본고는 거리 도상성의 관점에서 비통사적 합성어의 형성 기제와 의미적 긴밀성의 구체적 인 양상을 살펴보았다. 근접성 원리에 따르면 단어 내부에서 반의 관계나 유의 관계를 보이는 비통사적 합성어의 형성은 연상 관계의 근접성을 고려한 언중들의 도상적 의식이 언어 구조 에 반영된 것이다. 반의 관계를 가지는 어간 사이의 연상 강도가 매우 높고 서로 공기될 만큼 개념적 거리가 가깝다. 유의 관계를 보이는 어간들은 개념적 거리가 가까운 만큼 동일한 위치 에 출현하여 동일한 대상을 지시할 수 있다. 이러한 개념적 근접성이 합성어 형성에 반영되어 어미의 개입 없이 반의어나 유의어 어간끼리 결합하여 비통사적 합성어가 형성된다. 직접성 원리에 따르면 비통사적 합성어는 구성 요소가 어미의 간섭 없이 직접 결합한 만큼 서로 간의 영향이 강해지므로 더 추상화된 의미 혹은 다양한 의미를 획득한다. 반면에 통사적 합성어는 연결 어미 때문에 구성 요소 사이에 일정한 거리를 유지하게 되고, 언어 형식의 분 리성으로 인해 구성 요소 각각의 의미가 최대한 보존된다. 그러므로 두 어간 사이에 영향의 강도가 낮아져, 융합성이 떨어진 의미를 가지게 된다. 여기서 비통사적 합성어의 형태적 긴밀 성과 의미적 긴밀성이 대응되는데, 어휘 의미를 담는 단어 중심부끼리의 직접적인 결합으로 인해 융합성이 높은 의미를 가지게 되어 형태와 의미 사이의 도상적 관계가 형성된다.
