This study focused on the type and meaning of the ritual religion that female Taekwondo athlete experience. For this, 8 people were selected as study participants by convenience sampling and snowball sampling. Data was collected through participatory observation and in-depth interview, and the collected data was analyzed through text analysis. Following is the result of the study. Firstly, the types of ritual religion that female Taekwondo athlete experience are conventional self-custom, in-my-pocket strategy, and taboo. Conventional self-custom is represented in the form of daily routine where someone pursues his or her own way and communicate with god, friends, family or oneself, which is understood as a typical action of ritual religion. In-my-pocket strategy is a type of ritual religion where someone attaches significance on certain goods and worship them as a fetish. Taboo means not to do specific behavior as a means of avoidance of bad luck. Secondly, the meanings of ritual religion that female Taekwondo athlete experience is diffusion of potential capacity, elimination of anxiety factors, and reinforcement of belief toward social support. Diffusion of potential capacity is to reinforce self-consciousness of believing oneself through the act ritual religion. Elimination of anxiety factors refers to strengthen oneself by eliminating subjective anxiety factors happening during the match. Reinforcement of belief toward social support is to activate the expectation of the athlete’ socializing agents thereby consolidating the firm belief, “they will be of help to me.”

이 연구에서는 여자 태권도 선수들이 경험하는 의사종교의 유형과 의미에 주목하였다. 이를 위해 편의표집과 눈덩 이표집법을 이용하여 연구 참여자 8명을 선정하였다. 참여관찰과 심층면담을 통하여 자료를 수집하였고, 텍스트 분석을 통해 자료를 분석하였다. 분석한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여자 태권도 선수들이 경험하는 의사종교 유형은 의례적 자기관습, In my pocket, 금기 등으로 나타났다. ‘의례적 자기관습’은 일상적 루틴의 형태로 나만의 방식을 추구하는 것과 신, 친구, 가족이나 자신과 소통행위를 취하는 것으로 전형적인 의사종교 유형으로 이해된다. ‘In my pocket’은 특정 소모 품에 대해 의미화를 부여하여 숭배하는 것으로 주물의 형태를 보이는 의사종교 유형이다. ‘금기’는 나쁜 운에 대한 회피의 수단으로 특정 행위를 취하지 않는 것을 의미한다. 둘째, 여자 태권도 선수들이 경험하는 의사종교 의미로는 잠재적 능력 발산, 불안요소 제거, 사회적 지지자의 믿음 강화 등으로 나타났다. ‘잠재적 능력 발산’은 스스로가 ‘나를 믿는다’라는 자기 의식을 강화하는 잠재적 의미를 뜻한다. ‘불안요소 제거’는 경기 상황에서 야기되는 다양한 주관적 불안요소의 제거를 통해 ‘나를 더욱 강화시키다’는 의미가 내포되어 있다. ‘사회적 지지자의 믿음 강화’는 사회화 주관자로부터 기대의식이 작동하는 것으로 ‘나를 돕는다’라는 확고한 신념이 공고화되는 것을 의미한다.
