The purpose of this study is to explore the participants' motivation and to compare among those. Participants were selected from the 1st Jung-gu Children's Han River Crossing Swimming Competition and the Han River Cross Swimming Challenge held at the Han River Jamsil Bridge in 2017. Participants consist of 63 children and 54 adults. Participants were asked by participation motivation using the open questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed inductively and than compared based on percentage in main category or contents in sub category. The specific results are as follows. First, child’s participation motivation showed 91 row data, 24 sub category and 8 main category, and consisted of Pure desire, Self-challenge, Important other, Significant experience, Competition by-product, Psychological resource, Symbolism of the Han River, and Other depending on the frequency. Second, adult's participation motivation showed 111 row data, 28 sub category, 9 main category, and consisted of Self-challenge, Symbolism of the Han River, Important other, Open water swimming, Significant experience, Pure desire, Psychological resource, Competition by-product, and Other depending on the frequency. Third, the comparison of the participation motivation percentage in Child and Adult were that chid's motivation percentage was more than adult's motivation percentage in Pure desire, on the other hand, adult's motivation percentage was more than child's motivation percentage in Symbolism of the Han River and Only adult's motivation appeared in Open water swimming. Also two groups were differences in sub category content. The above results will be used as basic data to understand the participation motivation of participants in the Han River Cross Swimming Competition.

본 연구는 아동과 성인의 한강건너기 수영대회 참여동기를 분석하고, 두 집단 간의 참여동기를 비교하는 데 목적이 있다. 제1회 중구 어린이 한강건너기 수영대회와 2017 한강크로스 스위밍 챌린지 참가자를 모집단으로 선정하여 편의표본 추출을 이용해 아동 63명, 성인 54명을 표집하였다. 개방형 설문지를 활용해 한강건너기 수영대회의 참여동기를 수집하였 다. 수집된 자료를 토대로 귀납적 내용분석을 실시하였으며, 분석된 자료는 일반영역의 백분율과 세부영역의 내용을 기준으 로 비교하였다. 구체적인 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동의 참여동기는 총 91개의 원자료, 24개 세부영역 그리고 8개의 일반영역으로 나타났으며, 일반영역을 빈도순으로 나열하면 순수 욕구, 자기도전, 주요타자의 영향, 의미있는 경험, 대회 부산물, 심리자원 획득, 한강의 상징성, 기타의 순서로 나타났다. 둘째, 성인의 참여동기는 총 111개의 원자료, 28개 세부영역 그리고 9개의 일반영역으로 나타났으며, 일반영역을 빈도순으로 나열하면 자기도전, 한강의 상징성, 주요타자, 오픈워터스위밍, 의미있는 경험, 순수 욕구, 심리자원 획득, 대회 부산물, 기타로 나타났다. 셋째, 아동과 성인의 참여동기를 백분율을 기준으로 비교한 결과, 순수 욕구에서 아동이 성인보다 높게 나타난 반면 한강의 상징성에서는 성인이 아동보다 높게 나타났으며, 오프워터스위밍에서는 아동의 참여동기가 나타나지 않았다. 또한 아동과 성인은 세부영역의 내용 측면에 서 일부 차이가 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 한강건너기 수영대회의 참여동기를 이해하는 자료로 활용될 것이다.
