This study is a three-dimensional narrative analysis of an alternative family community with the aim of looking into the community members’ life experiences and the meaning of their lives in terms of temporality, social context, and placeness. For this study, we conducted in-depth interviews with the members of the alternative family, comprised of F (father), M (mother), and D (daughter), from January to September 2018. Some 3–5 sessions of interviews were conducted per person, with each session lasting about 120–150 minutes. We then explored life experiences of the participants using the data collected from the interviews, following the continuous flow of temporality from the past to the present. The meaning of the lives and experiences of the members of the alternative family community can be summarized as follows based on the results. First, children perceive the world through their experiences with their parents, which means that family experiences become the foundation on which they interact with the world. Second, having social experiences allows them to develop new attitudes toward life through positive social relations, compensating for the lack of caring in their original families with social experiences that focus their energy in directions that lead to their growth. Third, the family members grow together through their community based on self-caring and healing, compensating for the lack of caring in their original families with social experiences that gather the community for mutual healing and growth. This study found that the life experiences of members of the alternative family community can provide a basis for their own growth and healing, as well as that of other members in the community. This study shows that it may be possible to experience the role and function of a family within social relationships in the age of the nuclear family. This study is meaningful in that it study emphasizes the need and role of an alternative family community and the philosophy and method to build and realize the meaning and value of a family.

본 연구는 대안 가정공동체를 운영하는 가족의 삶의 경험과 의미를 탐색하는 내러티브 탐구로 연구 참여자의 삶을 시간성, 사회성, 장소의 3차원적 내러티브 탐구를 통해 삶의 경험과 의미를 탐 색하려는 목적이 있다. 연구를 위해 대안 가정공동체를 운영하는 가족, F(아버지), M(어머니), 그리 고 D(딸)를 대상으로 2018년 1월부터 9월까지 심층면담을 진행하였다. 면담은 참여자 개인당 3~5회 에 걸쳐 이루어졌고, 회당 120분~150분 정도 소요되었다. 수집된 자료는 내러티브 탐구방법에 따라 연구 참여자들의 삶의 경험을 과거로부터 현재까지의 연속적 시간성의 흐름에 따라 탐색하였다. 연 구결과 대안가정공동체 운영가족의 발견된 삶의 경험은 원 가족 경험, 사회생활 경험, 그리고 대안 가정공동체 운영경험의 의미로 재구성되었다. 대안가정공동체를 운영하는 가족의 삶과 경험의 의미 는 첫째, 자녀는 부모와의 경험을 통해 세상을 인식한다는 것으로 가족 경험이 세상과 상호작용의 기반이 된다는 것이다. 둘째, 사회생활 경험은 사회에서 긍정적 관계 경험을 통해 새로운 삶의 태도 를 경험할 수 있음을 의미한다. 원 가족과의 관계에서 결핍된 돌봄을 사회적 경험을 통해 보상받으 며 성장을 위한 방향으로 힘을 모으고 있음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 가족은 공동체를 통해 자기 돌봄과 치유를 기반으로 함께 성장하고 있다는 것이다. 본 연구는 대안 가정공동체의 필요성과 역할, 그리 고 가정의 의미와 가치를 만들고 실현하기 위한 철학과 방법을 제안하고 있다는 것에 의의가 있다.
