The purpose of this study is to compare the two events, Jeju 4.3 and Cheondoism 3.1 emersion Movement. First, the spirit of Jeju 4.3 (human rights, peace, reconciliation) and the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion Movement are not different. Second, it is to prove that the spirit of Jeju 4.3 and the Cheondoism can contribute to inter-Korean reunification and global peace, not to remain in human rights, peace and reconciliation. Third, just as the Jeju 4.3 incident is out of silence, the movement to reproduce the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion Movement also seeks to improve its status in Korea. The content of this study is the process of transforming social memory into official memory through the struggle of the memory. First, Jeju 4.3 succeeded in changing official memory from “Red Riot” to “People’s Rebellion” through the struggle of the memory. Second, the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion Movement failed to convert social memory into official memory in the absence of the struggle of the memory. Third, Jeju 4.3 and Cheondoism 3.1 emersion Movement have universality and decisive differences. The results of this study were as follows: First, it was confirmed that the Jeju 4.3 incident and the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion movement inherited the spirit of the 3.1 movement 100 years ago, dreaming of human rights, resistance and democracy. Second, it was confirmed that the Jeju 4.3 incident and the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion movement were national unification movements that exceeded the popular and anti-airport struggles. Third, it was confirmed through the Gwangju 5.18 that the movement of reproducing the Cheondoism 3.1 emersion movement, still in silence and oblivion, as in the case of the Jeju 4.3 that survived in the politics of memory, was able to improve its status through the struggle of the memory.

이 연구의 목적은 제주 4.3과 천도교 3.1재현 운동, 이 두 사건을 비교하는 것이다. 이를 통해 첫째, 제주 4.3 정신(인권, 평화, 화해)과 천도교 3.1재현운동 정신과 다를 바 없음을 밝히는 것이다. 둘째, 제주 4.3 정신이 인권, 평화, 화 해에 머무는 것이 아니라 남북통일, 나아가 세계 평화에 이바지할 수 있음을 증명하는 것이다. 셋째, 제주 4.3이 침묵에서 벗어난 것처럼 천도교 3.1재현 운동 또한 한국에서 위상 제고를 꾀한다. 이 연구의 내용은 기억투쟁을 통해 사회기억을 공식기억으로 전환하는 과 정이다. 첫째, 제주 4.3은 기억투쟁을 통해 공식기억을 “빨갱이 폭동론”에서 “민중항쟁론”으로 바꾸는 데 성공했다. 둘째, 천도교 3.1재현운동은 기억투쟁 의 부재로 사회기억을 공식기억으로 전환하는 데 실패했다. 셋째, 제주 4.3과 천도교 3.1재현운동은 보편성과 결정적 차이가 있다. 이 연구의 결과는 첫째, 제주 4.3과 천도교 3.1재현운동은 인권과 저항 그 리고 민주주의를 꿈꿨던 100년 전 3.1운동의 정신을 이어받았음을 확인했다. 둘째, 제주 4.3과 천도교 3.1재현운동은 민중항쟁이나 반공항쟁을 넘어서는 민족통일운동임을 확인했다. 셋째, 광주 5.18을 통해 기억의 정치에서 살아남은 제주 4.3처럼 여전히 침묵과 망각에 빠져있는 천도교 3.1재현운동이 기억 투쟁을 거쳐 위상 제고가 가능함을 확인했다.
