There are two primary questions that this paper aims to research: (1) Why is China installing reeducation camps in Xinjiang? (2) Is there a correlation between the reeducation camps in Xinjiang and the One Belt One Road initiative? And If so, what is the nature of this correlation? After a close look at these questions, the researcher surmises that the crackdowns on Xinjiang targeted to China’s Uyghur and other Muslim minorities through reeducation camps is largely tied to the success of the One Belt, One Road initiative because regional instability negatively affects economic growth.
