In the 19th century, Joseon came up with a number of responses to the invasion of Japanese imperialism. One of these responses was the righteous army. In this righteous army consisted of Ryu In-Seok forces, which incorporated the fundamental ideas into the Neo-Confucianism, and Kim Baek-Sun’s forces. These forces have cooperated together to respond to the Japanese invasion, and there has been internal conflict. In this process, Ryu In-Seok executed Kim Baek-Sun. There has been a view to seeing this execution as a protest, a conflict of classes, and a conflict within the righteous army. These views have good points. In my view, this conflict was happened by a conflict of class and a conflict within the righteous army. Of course, it is not entirely the cause of the conflict between conflicts of class and a protest, but it is judged to be more specific historical records than the existing explanation. In the future, I hope that more specific research will be conducted on the combat power of the soldiers after Kim Baek-sun's execution, Ryu In-Seok’s generalship, and the response of the Japanese government.

일제가 조선을 침략하는 19세기는 이에 대응하기 위한 여러 방안이 대두되었 다. 이러한 대응논리 중에 하나가 의병운동이었다. 이 의병운동에 류인석을 중심으로 주자학적 사상을 의병운동에 접목한 계층과 포군을 중심으로 한 김백 선의 세력이 부가되어 연합한 체제로 구성되었다. 이들 세력이 합심하여 일제침략에 공동대응하면서도 내적 갈등이 있어 왔다. 이 과정에서 발생된 사건이 대장 류인석에 의한 의병장 김백선의 처형이었다. 이 처형사건을 抗命, 身分 갈등, 義陣 內 갈등으로 보려는 견해가 있어 왔다. 이 설들은 나름의 원인을 찾고 있다. 논자는 이 사건을 신분과 의진 내 갈등 의해 발생된 사건으로 파악하였다. 물론 이 글에서 찾고자하는 의진과 신분 갈등이 전적인 요인이라고 할 수는 없지만 기존의 항명설 보다는 좀 더 구체적 인 사료를 찾아 정리했다고 판단한다. 앞으로, 김백선이 처형된 이후에 전개된 의병의 전투력과 류인석의 의병 지휘 력, 일제의 대응 등에 대하여 보다 더 구체적이고 세밀한 연구가 진행되길 기대 한다.
