Music textbooks for high schools all contain content related to teaching Korean musical instruments, which are linked to the expression domain. This study closely examined the content of teaching Korean musical instruments in the 2015 revised high school music textbooks, identified any inherent issues, and then sought direction for improvement. The findings of the study are as follows. The music textbooks gave weight on danso and sogeum for the instruction of wind instruments and only sanjo gayageum for the instruction of string instruments. Among percussion instruments, they mainly covered samul instruments (kkwaenggwari, jing, janggu, and buk) and partially included janggu for the general use of accompaniment and seoljanggu. The focus of the instruction in the textbooks was on good performing postures and fingering for danso and sogeum, the structure of the instrument, good posture, and techniques of both hands for sanjo gayageum, and performance techniques for percussion instruments. As for targeted music pieces for teaching danso, sogeum, and sanjo gayageum, folk songs were mainly covered while newly composed songs were introduced. Insa-gut and byeoldalgeori were introduced for teaching percussion, but a detailed teaching content of the songs for each instrument was not presented in most of the textbooks. Some of the textbooks included music instrument care and maintenance guides for danso, sogeum, gayageum, and samul instruments. The problems of teaching Korean music instruments presented in the music textbooks are lack of diversity in selecting Korean musical instruments and lack of accurate understanding of the origin of gayaguem. It was found that the concepts of terminology were misrepresented with regard to musical symbols for grace notes and sigimsae, and the description of how to play when repeating the same note was not correct. There was an error to be fixed in the notation system of jungganbo and staff notation. The performing pieces for sanjo gayageum lacked the active use of gueumbo. The instruction of Korean musical instruments in music textbooks had a tendency to be biased toward a particular domain among the achievement standards of the curriculum. The direction for improvement to solve the problems above is to take into account a more extensive selection of Korean musical instruments and to present a clear explanation of the origin of musical instruments. The concepts of terminology and performance techniques should be accurately introduced, and a notation system suitable for the characteristics of a given piece should be presented. Sanjo gayageum should actively use gueumbo, The instruction should be presented linking with the achievement standards of the expression domain. It is necessary that the content of teaching Korean music instruments give a more fucus on acquiring good techniques and performing while understanding the traits of a musical piece and encourage students to enhance their skills through various performing activities and to develop creativity.

고등학교 음악교과서는 국악기 지도에 관련된 내용을 모두 수록하고 있는데, 표현 영역과 연계되어 있다. 본 연구는 2015 개정 고등학교 음악교과서에 수록된 국악기의 지도내용을 면밀하게 검토하면서 내재되어 있는 문제점이 무엇인지 제기한 연후에 개선 방향을 모색하였는데, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 음악교과서는 국악기 지도와 관련해서 관악기는 단소와 소금의 지도에 비중을 두었고, 현악기는 산조 가야금에 국한하였다. 타악기는 주로 사물 악기를 중점적으로 다루었고, 일부 반주에 쓰이는 장구와 설장구의 지도내용을 수록하였다. 음악교과서의 국악기 지도내용은 단소와 소금의 경우 바른 연주 자세와 운지법에, 산조 가야금은 악기의 구조와 연주 자세 및 오른손과 왼손의 주법을 익히는데 비중을 두었으며. 타악기는 연주법에 치중하였다. 단소와 소금 및 산조 가야금의 연주곡은 민요가 주류를 이루고 일부 창작 국악곡을 소개하였다. 타악기는 주로 인사굿과 별달거리를 연주곡으로 소개하였는데, 악기별로 제재곡의 지도내용을 대부분 구체적으로 제시하지 않았다. 일부 음악교과서에는 단소와 소금 및 가야금과 사물 악기에 대한 관리법을 수록하였다. 음악교과서에서 국악기 지도내용의 문제점은 국악기 선택의 다양성 결여와 가야금의 유래에 대한 정확한 이해 부족이다. 장식음 부호와 시김새에 관련해서 용어의 개념이 잘못 제시되어 있고, 같은 음을 반복할 때의 연주법에 대한 설명이 부정확하다. 정간보와 오선보의 기보체계에 대한 오류로 수정이 필요하며, 산조 가야금의 연주곡은 구음보의 적극적인 활용이 부족하다. 음악교과서의 국악기 지도내용은 교육과정의 성취기준 중에서 편중된 경향이 나타난다. 국악기 지도내용의 문제점을 해결할 수 있는 개선 방향은 국악기 선택의 다양성을 고려해야 하며, 악기의 유래에 대한 명확한 설명이 제시되어야 한다. 용어의 개념과 연주법에 대한 설명을 정확하게 소개하고, 악곡의 특성에 맞는 기보체계를 수록해야 한다. 산조 가야금은 구음보를 적극적으로 활용해야 하며, 교육과정 표현 영역의 성취기준과 연계된 국악기의 지도내용이 제시되어야 한다. 음악교과서 국악기의 지도내용은 연주법의 올바른 습득과 악곡의 특징을 이해하면서 연주할 수 있도록 비중을 두고, 다양한 연주 활동을 통해 기량이 향상되고 창의성을 계발할 수 있도록 구상할 필요가 있다.
