This study aims at establishing the impact of regular participation in dance therapy program on the gesture expression of the intellectual disabilities. Dance therapy program was implemented for 32 weeks to the subjects of this study who are intellectual disabilities in I Welfare Facility(10 people in the experimental group, 10 people in the control group) located in D Town, and carried out the gesture expression test three times(prior, intermediate, post). The test items measured through this study were 5 gesture expression factors(diversity, directivity, temporality, flowability, expressivity). As a result of implementing the two-way Repeated ANOVA by repeated measurement of these 5 factors and analyzing the change between groups and periods, there was a significant difference between groups and periods in diversity, directivity, temporality, flowability, and expressivity among the subfactors of gesture expression and the level of interaction effect was significant in all other factors except for diversity, which shows that longer participation period of the experimental group leads to higher effectiveness in gesture expression. Therefore, in order to pursue healthy life of the intellectual disabilities, future study should be proceeded from various views, considering teaching method, scope and period of the study, efficient movement analysis, and features of the intellectual disabilities for their physical and mental development.
