The concept of “Huai-nan-ge-wu” is very important in Wang Gen’s philosophy, but scholars have different points of view on it. This article clarifies that “Huai-nan-ge-wu” must be understood in conjunction with his research question awareness and the audience of his lectures. In order to let the general public understand his lectures, Wang Gen’s philosophy is secular, which made his philosophy popular among the public. However, it brought a lot of criticisms to his philosophy. This article claims that although Wang Gen’s philosophy is different from Wang Yangming’s, his basic idea is still in line with fundamental values and norms of Confucianism.
