The purpose of this paper is to collect the oral history of fishermen working in the marine and fisheries field, and explain what are the major cultural changes currently being experienced by Korean fishing villages and what aspects of the adaptation strategies of fishermen to overcome them. In this study, 12 fishermen with different occupations were selected from major coastal cities in Korea to investigate the reality of Korean fishing villages and fishermen's life history. The fishermen explained to the research team how to catch fish, transmit knowledge, and learn the memory and cognition to grasp the natural environment during the investigation process. It is true that, beyond the 21st century, the life history of Korean fishing villages and fishermen is undergoing enormous changes. At present, in terms of resources, Korean fishing villages have changed a large number of fish species due to climate change and water temperature, and as a result, uncertainty in the economic life of fishermen is growing. Also, from a social point of view, Korean fishing villages are experiencing difficulties in supply and demand of domestic labor due to the avoidance of fishing among young people, and as a result, the number of foreign workers is rapidly increasing in most fishing villages. Based on the testimony of the fishermen and the results of the survey, the research team analyzed the adaptation strategies of Korean fishermen in preparation for future cultural changes. However, since this study was conducted not only for all Korean fishermen but mainly for the life history and testimony of 12 selected fishermen, this study is not a comprehensive study of Korean fishermen, but rather an oral history study based on qualitative research.

본 논문의 목적은 해양수산 분야에 종사하는 전국 어민들의 구술생활사를 수집하고, 이 내용을 분석하여 현재 한국 어촌이 겪고 있는 주요한 문화변동이 무엇이고, 이를 극복 하기 위한 어민들의 적응전략에는 어떤 양상들이 있는가를 설명하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 한국의 주요 해안도시에서 각기 다른 직종을 가진 어민 12명을 선별하 여 한국 어촌의 현실과 어민 생활사를 조사 하였는데, 이들은 그들의 고유한 어로형태뿐 만 아니라 관계하고 있는 주요 어종, 거주지역 등 대부분의 기준에서 다양함을 보여주고 있다. 어민들은 조사과정에서 물고기를 잡는 방법과 지식의 전승, 그리고 자연환경을 파 악하는 기억과 인지의 학습 등을 연구팀에게 설명하였고, 또한 예로부터 내려져오던 어 촌 공동체의 전통이 산업화시기를 맞이하면서 어떻게 변화하고 있는가에 대해서도 설명 하였다. 21세기를 넘어서면서 한국의 어촌과 어민들의 생활사는 실로 거대한 변화를 겪 고 있는 것이 사실이다. 현재 한국 어촌은 자원적 측면에서 볼 때 기후와 수온 변화로 인 해 상당수의 어종이 변화하였고, 이로 인해 어민의 경제적 생활에 있어서 불확실성이 커 지고 있다. 또한 사회적인 측면으로 볼 때도 한국의 어촌에서는 청년층의 어업 기피 현상 으로 말미암아 국내 노동력 수급에 상당한 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 이로 인해 대부분의 어 촌 지역에서 외국인 노동자의 숫자가 급상승하고 있다. 연구팀은 위와 같은 어민들의 증언과 조사결과 등을 토대로 한국의 어민들이 향후 발생할 수 있는 문화변동에 대비하여 어떠한 적응전략을 가지는 가에 대해 분석하였다. 하 지만 한국의 모든 어민을 대상으로 이루어진 것이 아니라 선별된 어민 12명의 생활사와 증언을 중심으로 행해졌기에, 이 연구는 한국 어민에 대한 총괄적 연구가 아니라 질적연 구에 기인한 구술생활사 연구라 할 수 있다.
