The purpose of this study is to identify the seriousness of the elderly problem in an aging society due to the extension of average lifespan and discuss the challenges and practical strategies with regard to the social issues surrounding the elderly. In the society of the 21st century, the church require theological contemplation on the existence of human beings and the conditions of life. The church for the elderly should be based on the correct understanding of their situation as well as the theological contemplation. This is a theological work to find the worldly meanings of the situation as the living environment for the human beings reflected in the church’s missionary activities. The directions for the church for the elderly are as follows; First, in the trend of globalization in the 21st century, the focus of the church should be laid upon the quality of life of the elderly who are growing only older. Second, it is necessary for the church to provide supports and practices that can help structuring the lifestyles, thinking, an awareness of the elderly in the 21st century. Fourth, as the minority of the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the church needs to provide support and practices to assist the re-adaptation of the elderly to the new lifestyles. Fourth, the Christianity has lost the trust and respect from South Korean society, which caused the church operations and missionary activities not as easy-going as they were. And, many analyses and alternatives are being suggested as the causes of such a crisis of South Korean churches. The church operations for the elderly require an understanding of the cultural and social context of the elderly, as well as their sentiment and emotions. If the church considers the elderly as the participatory subjects and helps them change their way of life, it would be possible for the church to provide them a direction of life that is more meaningful and valuable than simply living longer.

본 연구는 평균수명의 증가로 인한 고령화 사회에서 나타나게 되는 노인문제의 심 각성을 인지하고, 노인의 사회문제에 대해서 어떠한 방향으로 목회의 과제와 실천을 해 나가야 할지 논의하고자 한다. 21세기 사회에서 노인목회는 노인들의 삶의 조건과 그들이 처한 상황에 대해 올바르게 이해하고 신학적 성찰을 기초로 해야 하며, 이는 기독교회 목회사역의 전통과 실천에 반영되어 나타난 인간을 둘러싸고 있는 삶의 자 리로서 의미를 발견하는 신학적 작업이다. 노인목회에 대한 방향성 제시는 다음과 같 다. 첫째, 21세기 고령화의 흐름 속에서 목회의 관심은 무엇보다 노인들의 삶의 질에 대해 관심을 가져야 할 것이다. 둘째, 21세기 시대에 노인들의 사고와 인식, 라이프스 타일을 다시 구조화시키는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 목회적 지원과 실천이 필요하다. 셋 째, 4차 산업혁명시대 소수자로서 노인들의 라이프스타일 재적응을 위한 목회적 지원 과 실천을 위한 노력이 필요하다. 넷째, 오늘날 기독교는 우리나라 사회에서 신뢰와 존경을 상실하여 목회활동과 선교에 문제가 많이 발생하고, 이러한 한국교회 위기에 대한 원인으로 여러 분석과 대안들이 제시되고 있다. 노인목회는 노인들에 대한 심리 적, 정서적 이해와 그들이 처해있는 문화적, 사회적 이해가 요구된다. 노인들에 대해 목회가 노인들이 참여적 주체로 생각하며 삶의 방식을 전환할 수 있도록 돕는다면 장 수보다 의미 있고 가치 있는 삶을 살아갈 수 있는 방향성을 제시 할 수 있을 것이다.
