John Patton, pastoral theologian in the U.S.A., emphasized the ministry group as a core element in his discussion of pastoral wisdom and pastoral theological methodology. This study, defining pastoral wisdom as comprehensive expertise in cognitive, integrative, and relational factors for offering pastoral care in effective ways, endeavors to investigate theory and practices of the ministry group for fostering pastoral wisdom. For this purpose, it first elucidates pastoral wisdom and pastoral theological method proposed by Patton (II), then explores theoretical framework of pastoral theology and the ministry group in light of wisdom psychology and the concept of practical wisdom(III), and finally examines practices of the ministry group for fostering pastoral wisdom, drawing on my own pastoral experiences, and suggests practical ways of implementing the ministry group for pastors. The contribution of this study is as follows. First, it seeks to elucidate the theoretical foundations of pastoral wisdom and the ministry group by means of wisdom theory and practical wisdom, and to stress the distinctive characteristics of pastoral wisdom. Secondly, it reveals, on the basis of pastoral experiences, that it is an effective way for developing pastoral wisdom to spare sufficient time for sharing the past, present and future of participants as well as their experiences in their families of origin, and that it takes far more time in Korea than in America to establish a safe community for genuinely sharing one’s stories. Finally, it suggests practical ways of implementing the ministry group for pastors to enhance pastoral wisdom. This group, which is to set up in deep consideration of the reality of Korean pastors, is designed to offer an opportunity for experiencing the ministry group and to induce them to participate in subsequent programs. My deepest hope is that this study will evoke concerns and discussions concerning pastoral wisdom and the ministry group in the field of pastoral theology, contributing to renewal of Korean church and theology.

미국의 목회신학자 존 패튼(John Patton)은 목회적 지혜(pastoral wisdom)와 목회 신학 방법론에서 사역 지지집단(the ministry group)을 핵심적 요소로 강조한다. 본고 는 목회적 지혜를 목회 돌봄을 효과적으로 수행하기 위한 인지적, 통합적, 관계적 요 인의 종합적 탁월성이라고 정의하고, 목회적 지혜를 함양하기 위한 사역 지지모임의 이론과 실제를 정립하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 패튼의 목회적 지혜와 목회신학 방법론을 정리하고(II), 최근 활발히 연구되는 지혜심리학과 실천적 지혜 개 념에 비추어 목회적 지혜와 사역 지지집단의 이론적 틀을 확립하고(III), 필자의 경험 에 비추어 목회적 지혜를 함양하는 사역 지지집단의 실제를 검토하고, 목회자 사역 지지집단에 대한 향후 방향을 제시할 것이다(IV). 본고의 의의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본고는 목회적 지혜와 사역 지지집단을 지혜심 리학과 실천적 지혜에 비추어 이론적으로 규명하고, 목회적 지혜가 지닌 고유한 특성 도 함께 강조했다. 둘째, 본고는 필자의 경험을 통해 사역 지지집단에서 자신의 과거, 현재, 미래, 원가족을 충분히 나눌 수 있도록 하는 것이 목회적 지혜를 함양하는 좋은 방법이 되며, 한국에서의 사역 지지집단은 자신의 이야기를 솔직하게 나눌 수 있는 안전한 공동체를 형성하는데 미국보다 더 긴 기간이 요구된다고 밝혔다. 마지막으로, 본고는 목회적 지혜 함양을 위한 목회자 사역 지지집단의 현실적인 방법을 제시했다. 이 집단은 목회자의 현실적 여건을 감안하여 사역 지지집단을 실제적으로 경험하게 하고, 후속 프로그램으로 이어지도록 고안되었다. 본고가 목회적 지혜와 사역 지지집단의 이론과 실제에 대한 논의를 촉발하여 한국 의 교회와 신학을 새롭게 하는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.
