The purpose of this study was to examine the achievements of the operation of Writing Clinics for foreign students and to find ways to improve them. In order to achieve our research objectives, this study analyzed the actual case of the operation of a Writing Clinic at university, and the results of a survey pertaining to the demands of the students. Furthermore, the results identified problems in existing Writing Clinics for foreign students and based suggestions on how to improve them. The preceding studies suggested that face-to-face counseling and non face-to-face counseling should be used in the operation of Writing Clinics in a compromised manner, and that there is a need to develop a model for the unity of counseling. The studies also pointed out that writing counseling for foreign students should be differentiated from counseling for Korean students. The problems of the foreign student writing counseling in this study were the procedure for applying for counseling, understanding the subject matter, using data, proper sentence composition, and using the correct expressions. This suggests that foreign writing counseling should firstly include very fundamental things. The results of this study also indicate that foreign writing counseling should be approached from a completely different perspective from Korean counseling insofar as consultation application procedures, counseling methods, and counseling content are concerned.

본 연구는 외국인 학생을 위한 글쓰기 클리닉 운영 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 대학의 실제 글쓰기 클리닉 운영 사례와 학습자 요구 조사 결과를 분석한다. 그 결과를 바탕으로 기존의 외국인 학생 대상 글쓰기 클리닉의 문제를 파악하고 이에 대한 개선 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 선행연구에서는 글쓰기 클리닉 운영 시 대면 상담과 비대면 상담을 절충적으로 사용해야 한다는 것, 상담의 통일성을 위한 모형을 개발할 필요가 있다는 것 등을 제안하고 있었다. 그리고 외국인 학생 대상 글쓰기 클리닉에 대해서는 내국인 학생 대상 상담과의 차별화가 필요하다는 점을 지적하였다. 본 연구에서 외국인 학생 대상 글쓰기 클리닉을 운영 사례와 학습자 요구 조사를 중심으로 외국인 학생 대상 글쓰기 상담의 내용과 문제들을 살펴본 결과 외국인 학생 글쓰기 상담에서 나타나는 문제는 상담 신청 절차, 주제의 이해, 자료 이용, 적절한 문장 구성, 올바른 표현 사용 등 매우 기본적인 것부터 포함되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 이런 결과를 통해 외국인 글쓰기 상담은 상담 신청 절차, 상담 방법, 상담 내용 등에 있어서 내국인 상담과는 완전히 다른 시각에서 접근이 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
