is Seo, Jeong-in’s third work. The novel is also full of abstract consciousness of death like and published in his previous works. However, the novel is different from previous works in that it explores the violent motive that causes death consciousness by closely depicting superego’s injunction, which are handed down inside and outside of ‘Han Hyun-woo’, respectively, through free indirect discourse and inner monologue. In particular, considering the psychoanalytical discussion that the violent superego behind state power is the agent of state violence. This novel is very meaningful in that the writer’s persistent sense of problem is embodied in the narrative, which is intended to symbolize the traumatic event ‘Yeosun Incident’ which gave him a fatal wound. This paper is a follow-up to a study that identifies the puissance of superego in , and has taken a deeper approach to the inner consciousness of Hyun-woo. To find out the psychological mechanisms that enables his external obedience, his understanding of ‘Chan’’s existential passage, and the meaning and function of the ‘put on the costume’ command imposed on oneself, the paper examined the inner consciousness of Hyun-woo, focusing on ‘transference’ and ‘fantasy’. As a result, it was examined that Hyun-woo carried out external obedience while imagining peace and freedom, but was caught in a death drive by encountering an unwritten superego as a special form of ‘law violation and law bankruptcy’, and eventually became the subject of desire to defend a death drive through the fantasy of accepting the symbolic mandate that he had to perform by obedience.

<의상을 입어라>는 서정인의 세 번째 작품이다. 그 이전에 발표된 <후송>과 <물결이 높던 날>과 같이 이 소설 또한 관념적 죽음 의식이 미만하다. 그러나 자유간접화법과 내적 독백 등을 통해 작중인물인 ‘한현우’의 내부와 외부에서 각각 하달되는 초자아적 명령과 그의 반응을 밀도 있게 형상화함으로써 죽음 의식을 야기하는 폭력적 동인을 탐색하고 있다는 점에서 이전 작품들과는 변별된다. 특히 국가 권력 이면의 폭력적 초자 아가 국가 폭력의 작인이라는 정신분석학적 논의를 참고하자면, 작가가 경험한 외상적 사건인 ‘여순사건’을 상징화하고자 하는 작가의 집요한 문제 의식이 이 작품을 통해 서사 적으로 구현되고 있다는 점에서 매우 의미 있는 작품이라고 할 수 있다. 본고는 <의상을 입어라>에 나타난 초자아의 역능을 규명한 연구의 후속 작업으로서, 현우의 내면 의식에 보다 깊숙이 천착하였다. 그의 외면적 복종을 가능케 하는 전이의 메커니즘과 ‘찬’의 실존이행에 대한 그의 인식, 그리고 스스로에게 부과하는 ‘의상을 입 어라’라는 명령의 의미와 기능 등을 규명하기 위해 ‘전이’와 ‘환상’에 초점을 맞춰 그의 내면 의식을 고찰하고자 하였다. 그 결과 현우가 평화와 자유를 상상적으로 가정하면서 외면적 복종을 수행하지만 ‘법 위반 및 법 파산’의 특수한 형태인 불문율적 초자아와 조우하여 죽음충동에 휩싸이게 되고, 결국 현우 자신이 복종으로써 수행해야 하는 상징 적 위임을 희극의 배역으로서 수임하고자 하는 환상을 통해 죽음충동을 방어하고 욕망의 주체로 정립되고 있음을 규명하였다.
