This study aims to present practical tasks which young people can perform to create a safe community. To this end, it conducted a survey on recognition and awareness on community safety among adults and youths residing in a district in South Korea during October 2019. The data collected from 2,544 adolescents and 364 adults were used for the analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the adults recognized that the community was not safe for the youths, more seriously than did the youths themselves. Female youths were more concerned about the issue of security in a community than male youths. Second, both adults and youths recognized home as the most secure but traffic safety as the most vulnerable. Third, both adults and youths were most aware of a safety net for helping them to cope with school violence. Fourth, the level of safety awareness among youths was higher than that in adults. Some suggestions for community safety in this study include enhancing community environment., expanding support for female youths, reinforcing transportation safety, promoting a community safety net, and offering safety education to improve safety awareness.

본 연구는 청소년이 안전한 지역사회 조성을 위한 실천과제를 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 S군에 거주하는 성인과 청소년을 대상으로 2019년 10월에 지역사회 안전에 대한 인식과 안전의식을 확인하였다. 분석에 활용한 자료는 청소년이 2,544명이었고 성인은 364명이었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성인은 청소년보다 지역사회가 청소년이 거주하기에 안전하지 않다고 인식하였 다. 또한 여자청소년이 남자청소년보다 지역사회가 안전하지 않다고 인식하였다. 둘째, 청소년과 성인은 모두 가정환경이 가장 안전하다고 인식하였고, 교통안전이 가장 안전하지 않다고 생각하였 다. 셋째, 청소년과 성인은 학교폭력의 안전망을 가장 잘 인지하고 있었다. 넷째, 청소년의 안전의식 이 성인에 비해 높았다. 지역사회 안전을 위한 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지역사회 환경을 개선한다. 둘째, 여자청소년에 대한 지원을 확대한다. 셋째, 교통영역에 대한 안전을 보강한다. 넷째, 지역사회 안전망을 홍보한다. 다섯째, 안전의식 향상을 위한 안전교육을 진행한다.
