In recent years, field placements have greatly expanded in Korean universities, but the details of these programs are not well known. In this context, the purpose of this study was to explore what students experience and construct practical knowledge and meaning from the perspective of students who have participated in field placements. For the study, a four-year university in Seoul was selected, and interviews were conducted with 10 students participating in middle and long-term field placements. These interviews were analyzed through thematic analysis. As a result of the study, in the new context of field placements, students were showing emotional and cognitive change, as well as stepwise internal changes such as expectation, surprise, adaptation, and meaning making. These students' experiences demonstrate the potential as a learning program for student growth. As implications, institutional improvement should be oriented towards clarifying the nature of the field placement as a curriculum. Field placement programs should be systematically designed to improve the effectiveness of the student's learning experience in all activities before, during and after practice.

지난 몇 년간 대학교육에서 현장실습이 크게 확대되었지만, 현장실습 프로그램이 진행되는 구체 적인 모습에 대해서는 그다지 알려져 있지 않다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 연구는 대학교육의 현장실습 에 참여한 학생들의 관점에서 학생들이 무엇을 경험하며 어떤 과정에서 실천적 지식과 의미를 구성 해 나가는지를 심층적으로 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구를 위해 서울 소재 4년제 대학교를 선정하여 중·장기 현장실습에 참여한 학생 10명을 대상으로 인터뷰를 진행하였고 주제분석(thematic analysis)기법을 통해 분석되었다. 연구결과, 학생들은 현장실습이라는 새로운 맥락에서 감정적, 인지적 측면의 변화 경험과 함께 기대, 충격, 적응, 의미 발견 등의 단계적인 내적 변화를 보여주고 있었다. 이러한 학생들의 경험은 현장실습이 학생 성장을 위한 학습프로그램으로서의 잠재성이 있다는 것을 의미한다. 시사점으로는, 현장실습이 교육과정으로서의 성격을 분명히 하는 방향으로 제도적 개선이 이루어져야 하며, 그것 은 실습의 전, 중, 후의 모든 활동에서 학생들의 학습경험의 효과성이 증진될 수 있도록 체제적으로 디자인되어야 함을 강조하고 있다.
