The game of Go between Lee Sedol and “AlphaGo Lee” in March 2016 was an incident that brought the existence of artificial intelligence (AI) to the attention of Korean society. Previously, awareness of AI was very vague. This article focuses on TV dramas that feature AI which came out after Korean society began to realize the existence of AI in 2016. Following the advent of AlphaGo, TV dramas were produced and broadcast with AI themes. In particular, “Are You Human Too?” which began airing in 2018, was a work that earned high ratings and garnered broader public appeal than other comparable dramas. In this article, I study the way Korean TV dramas, specifically “Are You Human Too?” recognize and deal with AI. Two main discourses on AI in TV dramas are apparent in “Are You Human Too?” First, it is a matter of “body” as a variant of human and AI, and secondly, a matter of free will in relation to desire and choice. The problem is that contradictions exist in all aspects of the discourse process on AI, encompassing the body and spirit. After AlphaGo, it is now necessary for the public to fully accept AI, reflect on it and look to the future. Still, the attitude in “Are You Human too?” is regressive in that the unscientific and romantic discourse on AI, which was consumed before AlphaGo, is being repeated. Based on the analysis of “Are You Human Too?” this article captures and questions this point of contradiction.

2016년 3월, 이세돌 9단과 AI ‘알파고 리’의 대국은 그간 막연하게 인식 되던 AI(Artificial Intelligence, 인공지능)의 존재를 한국사회에 실감하게 한 사건이었다. 이 글에서는 2016년, 한국사회가 AI의 존재를 실감하기 시작한 이후 등장한 AI를 제재로 한 한국 TV 드라마에 관심을 갖고자 한다. 2016년의 알파고의 등장 이후 AI를 제재로 제작·방영된 공중파 TV 드라마 중에서도 특히 <너도 인간이니?>는 비슷한 주제로 방영되었던 작품들에 비해 높은 시청률과 대중성을 확보하고 있고, 국내 최초로 기획된 AI 드라마로서의 의의를 가진다. 그러므로 이 글은 <너도 인간이니?>를 통해 알파고의 등장 이후, 한국의 TV 드라마가 비로소 AI를 인식하고 담론화하는 방식과 내용, 그 의미를 연구해보고자 한다. <너도 인간이니?>를 통해 확인할 수 있는 TV 드라마의 AI에 대한 담론은 크게 인간과 AI의 변별로서의 ‘몸’이 갖는 가치에 대한 문제, 그리고 욕망과 선택이라는 ‘정신’의 차원에서 변별 되는 자유의지의 문제가 핵심적이다. 반면 몸과 정신을 아우르는 모든 측면, 즉 AI의 존재에 대한 담론화 과정에서는 모순이 존재한다는 점에서는 문제적이다. 알파고 이후, AI의 존재를 실감한 대중이 이제 그를 온전히 받아들이고 성찰하며, 미래를 전망하는 것이 필요함에도 불구하고, <너도 인간이니?>의 태도는 알파고 이전에 소비되던 AI에 대한 비과학적이고 낭만적인 담론을 반복하고 있다는 점에서 퇴행적이다. 그렇기 때문에 이 글에서는 작품의 분석을 바탕으로 이러한 모순의 지점을 포착하고 이를 문제시하고자 하였다.
