Great interest in business exchanges with North Korea has increased among South Korean companies. Even though accounting information is essential in business, our knowledge and information on accounting system of North Korea are substantially limited. We introduce the costing system of North Korea based on an university textbook recently published in North Korea and compare it with one of South Korea. There seems to be little difference in basic cost concept between South Korea and North Korea, but the cost classifications and costing procedures of North Korea directly reflect the characteristics of socialist planned economy as well as of North Korean social and industrial structures. Cost information in North Korea provided for the purpose of planning and controlling seems not to be effective and efficient enough to support a variety of business decision-making. In addition, cost accounting system in North Korea seems to be less sophisticated as well as less diverse as compared with that in South Korea.

최근 민간기업을 중심으로 남·북한 사이의 경제적 교류를 위한 논의가 활발하다. 이와 관련하여 기 업의 경영활동을 정확하게 측정·보고할 수 있는 회계정보가 필수임에도 북한의 회계제도에 대한 지식 과 정보는 매우 제한적이다. 본 연구는 북한의 대학용 회계학 교재인 『회계지식(2017)』에서 설명된 원 가의 개념 및 원가계산방법 등을 소개하고, 남한의 원가계산과 비교·분석하였다. 북한의 원가는 개념적 으로 남한과 매우 유사한 측면이 있지만, 원가의 분류 및 계산과정에 사회주의 경제체제 및 가치관 뿐 만 아니라 사회구조 및 생산활동의 특성을 직접 반영하고 있는 특징이 있다. 북한에서 원가정보는 계획 과 통제 목적으로 산출되어 다양한 경영 의사결정을 지원하기에는 부족한 것으로 보인다. 또한, 북한의 원가계산은 정교성과 다양성 수준이 낮은 기초적 수준으로 평가된다.
