This study has its purpose in describing the Korean language leaners’ experience in writing a Letter of Self-Introductions. To accomplish the goal of the research, the study conducted the class on writing a Letter of Self-Introduction and had them freely describe in writing their experience in writing a Letter of Self-Introduction. To analyze its data, the study transcribed the collected data and continuously compare and analyze it. The research method found the learner’s perception of writing itself and the experience that the learner experiences in writing Korean to belong to the category of pre-writing experience. And it found in the category of experience earned through the writing process the difficulty involved in the verbal expression and the realization of the appropriateness of the writing structure, the writing and rewriting of an overview, and the understanding of the importance of feedback from teacher. Learners of the Korean language simultaneously have positive and negative experience of ‘discovering and understanding myself and those around me’ through personal essay writing. This study is significant, in that it has suggested that the Korean writing education should come up with its content and methodology focusing on such general characteristics.

이 연구는 한국어 학습자의 자기소개서 쓰기 경험을 기술하는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구 목적에 도달하기 위해 자기소개서 쓰기 수업을 진행한 후, 학습자들에게 자기소개서 쓰기를 하면서 경험한 것을 자유롭게 기술하게 하였다. 본 연구의 자료 분석은 수집한 자료를 전사한 후 지속적으로 읽으면서 비교․분석하는 방법을 활용하였다. 이러한 연구 방법을 통해 쓰기 자체에 대한 학습자의 인식, 주제에 대한 인식이 쓰기 이전의 경험의 범주로 나타났으며, 글을 쓰는 과정에서는 ‘어려움 인식’과 ‘중요성 인식’이 주요한 경험으로 나타났다. 또한 쓰기에 대한 변화, 몰랐던 자신의 발견, 자기소개서 쓰기의 장르적 특성에 대한 인식이 쓰기 후 경험의 주요 범주에 속했다. 한국어 학습자는 자기소개서 쓰기를 통해 한국어 쓰기에서 겪는 ‘일반적인 경험’과 ‘자기소개서 쓰기의 장르적 특성’을 경험하게 된다. 따라서 장르적 특성을 고려한 한국어 쓰기의 교육내용과 방법이 구현되어야 한다는 것을 본 연구를 통해 제안하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있겠다.
