This study compares George Whitefield' s reformed theological system with John Wesley' s theological system examines their commonalities and differences, and studies what theology we should pursue through their theology. First, as a basic theological system, Whitefield insisted on Calvin' s "limited atonement," and Wesley insisted on the Arminisian "universal salvation." Second, Whitefield confesses that he had to accept God' s unconditional election and predestination. Wesley, on the other hand, sees his religious effort and sanctification as the deciding factor of salvation rather than God' s predestination. Third, we must believe that salvation is accomplished entirely by God' s unconditional election and predestination, as in Whitefield. Jesus also told us clearly, 'Ask!'.

본 연구는 조지 휫필드의 개혁 신학체계와 존 웨슬리의 신학체계를 비교하여 그들의 공통점과 차이점을 각각 알아보고, 이들의 신학을통해 우리가 지향해야할 신학은 무엇인지 연구하였다. 첫째, 기본적인 신학체계로 휫 필드는 칼빈의 '제한적 속죄론' 을 주장했고, 웨슬리는 아르미니우스적인 '보편구원론' 을 주장하였다. 둘째, 휫필드는 하나님의 선택과 예정을 인정할 수밖에 없었다고 고백한다. 반면, 웨슬리는 하나님의 예정보다는 본 인의 신앙적인 노력과 성화가 구원을 결정 짓는 요인으로 보았다. 셋째, 우리는 이들의 신학 체계를 신앙생활 의 현실에서는 잘 조화시컥야할 필요성이 있다. 즉 우리는 휫필드처럼 전적으로 하나님의 선택과 예정으로 구 원이 이루어진다고 믿어야 한다. 다만 웨슬리의 주장처럼 구하지 않는 자에게 주어지는 것도 아니다. 예수님 도 우리에게 말씀하시길 '구하라' 고 분명히 말씀하셨기 때문이다.
