Melbourne is renowned for its street art. Within that environment, graffiti and mural are in coexistence that contributes to tourist attractions. Keith Haring visited Australia in 1984 and created several murals. Amongst them the Collingwood mural was added to the Victorian Heritage Register in 2004. Since then the mural has been preserved under the strict policy and management by the City of Melbourne. This research explores graffiti and mural in Melbourne according to Keith Haring’s mural and his spirit which are characterized by artistic improvisation and for public environment. The result of this study includes an interpretation of Melbourne street art through the lens of Keith Haring’s murals. Keith Haring liked the place where he can communicate with people through his new visual language that activates social intervention. The graffiti is actively changing and transforming where is the place for art with the public that Keith Haring thought and wanted. In one place, graffiti and in another, mural coexist where is Melbourne street art. The City of Melbourne is putting a lot of financial effort into maintaining this.

멜버른은 거리예술이 유명한 곳이다. 그곳에는 거 리예술 문화인 그라피티(Graffiti)와 뮤랄(Mural)이 서로 공존하며 관광객의 시선을 유도한다. 키스 해링 (Keith Haring)은 1984년 호주를 방문하였고 여러 뮤랄을 제작했다. 그중에서 멜버른의 콜링우드 뮤랄 은 2004년에 문화재로 지정되어 철저한 정책 및 관리 아래 보존되어왔다. 본 연구에서는 키스 해링의 작품과 작가 정신을 토대로 스트리트 아트의 특성인 즉흥성과 공공환경에 부합하는 멜버른 그라피티와 뮤 랄에 대해 살펴보고 그 내용을 정리하였다. 연구결과 의 내용은 멜버른에 있는 키스 해링의 작품을 통한 거리예술의 해석과 재조명이다. 키스 해링은 자신만 의 조형언어를 이용하여 사회적 개입 활동을 펼침과 동시에 대중과 함께 소통할 수 있는 곳을 선호했는데, 그라피티가 활발히 제작되고 변형되던 곳이 바로 키스 해링이 그토록 바라고 원하던 장소였던 것이다. 한 곳에서는 그라피티가, 또 다른 곳에서는 뮤랄이 서로의 자리를 시샘하듯 공존하는 곳이 바로 멜버른 거리예술이며, 멜버른 시에서는 이러한 거리예술의 명성을 위하여 많은 유지비용을 지원하고 있다.
